Small business owners' fear of the effect of the new health-care reform law on their bottom line is prompting many to hold off on hiring and even to shed jobs in some cases, a recent poll found.

"We were startled because we know that employers were concerned about the Affordable Care Act and the effects it would have on their business, but we didn't realize the extent they were concerned, or that the businesses were being proactive to make sure the effects of the ACA actually were minimized," said attorney Steven Friedman of Littler Mendelson. His firm, which specializes in employment law, commissioned the Gallup poll.

I got rid of my employees in my small business. Now I do more of the administrative work and my independent contractors do more.

Proactive, yes. It was pretty obvious to all thinking people that Obamacare would cause employers to shed and downsize employees.

There have been no big companies going down in my area, however about a week ago I had to have my 3-month blood check. The office is very large and tests many things other than blood. It has been so full that the wait is long. THERE WERE NO PATIENTS IN THE WAITING ROOM.

A week later, I reported to a doctor whose office contains two doctors, each with a different specialty. I went early, knowing I’d have a long wait because of the usual crowd of patients. The waiting room WAS EMPTY.

I can only guess that many, many local businesses have cut their employees to 30 hours or less, which of course means that the companies don’t have to pay Obama Care. But the employees still have to pay their own health insurance on their lesser paychecks.

There were also less staff in each of those offices which means still more people are either w/o work or working shorter hours for less pay.

Just 9 percent of the small employers surveyed agreed that Obamacare would be "good for your business," while another 39 percent saw "no impact."

So 39 percent don't handle their own books and 9 percent are insane.

Once again, every, single solitary thing the critics of Obamacare said would happen is indeed happening, and none of the claimed benefits are happening or can happen.

Amazing - businesses literally have to count on business NOT picking up so they won’t have to adhere to these mandates - literally risk going out of business if they were to gain business. Is this insanity or what?

As a small business, we have reacted to Obamacare by not hiring anyone who isn’t family. Everyone else we work with is an independent contractor. I expect a law against this behavior any time now...
