Agree. It does not matter that many of the Hispanics show some signs of “assimilating.†What counts is the small dedicated minority that is “Hell Bent†on reconquest. La Raza comes to mind. I had a young Chicana lawyer tell me once “We are taking over here!” They are in California, Arizona Nevada and Texas the very states we obtained by way of the war with Mexico.
Are second and third generation "Hispanics" voting for Big Government??
WSJ doesn't address that aspect.
What the article does not address is the phenomenon of two Hispanics completely fluent in English but still reverting to Spanish when speaking with each other. En masse this can create Spanish speaking colonies despite the fact that the majority of them can speak English.
The whole assumption is WRONG since previous legal “immigrants” got no benefits on the backs of taxpayers and had to swim or sink as they became US citizens with total loyalty to the US for giving them a chance to swim.

Illegals are the issue, not Hispanic immigration, nor Hispanic cultures. It’s been my lifelong observation that by the 2nd and 3rd generations, Mexicans or Costa Ricans or whover are Americanized to the extent that Europeans were Americanized during the waves of immigration at the turn of the 20th century. We still have “Little Italy’s”, Jewish neighborhoods, and Chinatowns and we’ll have ‘Little Mexico’s”. That part is ok, it’s our American heritage.
In point of fact, “Hispanics” have always been part of Southern and Western American culture. New Orleans was once a spanish city, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and California.
That said, we must put 100% stop to illegals, make them apply like everyone else (i.e. enforce our laws). No general amnesty. English and naturalization is a requirement. We should expect that out of everyone who wants to come here.

It is the American government that is the villan here.
Well it’s been my lifelong experience as a first generation American of immigrants, that things just are not the same as they used to be! Yes there have always been enclaves of Germans, Italians, Puerto Rican’s, Spaniards,whatever, the one biding agent was that they came here to be Americans, and they pushed their children to assimilate and learn the American Culture. They did not deny their children their heritage, nor should anyone ever deny their heritage, but they did want their children to become Americans!
Now we see things differently, I feel that there are still peoples wanting to come here to be Americans, but I feel
(and have dealt with many as either employer or co worker)the vast majority from our southern border have no intent whatsoever in shifting their allegiance. I am not saying that they are bad people, just the facts as I have experienced them.
You make fair points. The old melting pot isn’t what it used to be, is it? I believe it’s still working out there, just overwelmed. The government must begin controling the borders and enforcing our immigration laws.
I totally agree! Once we control our borders and control the timing of immigrants we will get a handle on the rest. Being the offspring of immigrants I have no animus against LEGAL immigrants who follow the rules and want to better themselves.

Michael Medved’s politics began on the hard left, to the point of working for Red Ron Dellums back in the day.
He moved to the center to support Reagan back in 1980 but in a lot of ways he’s returned to his natural affinity for things left- that’s certainly the case when it comes to amnesty and immigration.
His idea of a ‘conservative’ is Lindsey Graham, John McCain, basically all the usual suspects from the GOP elite.
Funny thing is, I think he actually thinks of himself as a moderate to right leaning individual. Your Graham/McCain mention is about it though isn’t it.

I’m not so sure. I think he knows better, but poses as a conservative for several reasons.
For one, he makes a living pitching his work to conservatives. Alienating your target audience isn’t a smart move, although he manages to do that surprisingly often.
Another reason is that he tries to nudge conservatives to the left, to where he likes to be. This is a common tactic among the GOP elite and he fits right in with them.
But I think his primary reason is that he bitterly despises isolationism. He has said that Nixon’s rallying to Israel’s defense in 1973 made him rethink his commitment to the radical left and this is why he drifted away from the Democrats when the McGovernites took control.
He came out for Reagan in 1980 because of Reagan’s muscular foreign policy, but like many other neocons he still firmly embraces liberal social views. This is muted somewhat in Medved by his religious practice.
But despite his posturing I don’t think that it’s too hard to see through Medved. He’s definitely an influence peddler for the GOP moderates who want to marginalize conservative influence in the Party. I use him the vet up and coming candidates. If Medved is for them then I regard it as a warning flag- so it’s no surprise to find Rubio exposed as a fraud.
I agree with what you posted. Some of it I hadn’t heard before. I haven’t listened in to his show to learn quite as much as you have. It pains me to listen to a guy who doesn’t get it.
I’ve even had to turn Rush off a few times when he backed people or policies I couldn’t.
It is a good policy to listen to who people support, when you know they aren’t solid conservatives. It does help to vet people.
Typically, the first generation immigrants are very poor but are willing to work long hours at tedious or physically demanding jobs. One thing that they do not do, however, is encourage their children to obtain the education and skills in order to have higher-paying, higher-skill jobs. As a result, the kids are given the choice: do a dead end job like dad for minimum wage, live on welfare, or run in a gang and engage in crime. All too often, the children of Mexican immigrants choose options 2 or 3.
Culturally, I've noticed that the first and second generations opt out of both Mexican culture and mainstream American culture. They often speak barrio Spanglish instead of either Spanish or English, and act in ways that wouldn't be acceptable in either Mexico or the United States. A smaller subset (the Chicano activist types) prefer reverse assimilation, refusing to speak any English at all or take part in any aspect of American life.
