The ongoing Benghazi investigation, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, the DOJ collecting journalists’ phone records, the NSA surveillance revelations, the continuously bumpy ObamaCare rollout, and etcetera — it’s tough to pinpoint the precise effect any one debacle is having on the president’s approval rating, but it looks like the collective effect of the snowballing scandals and bureaucratic failures is definitely starting to manifest itself. A new national CNN/ORC poll pegs Obama’s approval rating at just 45 percent — the lowest he’s scored in over a year and a half and a drop of eight percentage points over just the past month.
The president’s approval rating stands at 45%, down from 53% in mid-May. And 54% say they disapprove of how Obama’s handling his job, up nine points from last month. It’s the first time in CNN polling since November 2011 that a majority of Americans have had a negative view of the president.
“The drop in Obama’s support is fueled by a dramatic 17-point decline over the past month among people under 30, who, along with black Americans, had been the most loyal part of the Obama coalition,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
“It is clear that revelations about NSA surveillance programs have damaged Obama’s standing with the public, although older controversies like the IRS matter may have begun to take their toll as well,” adds Holland.
Six in 10 disapprove of how Obama is handling government surveillance of U.S. citizens, which is higher than the 52% who disapproved of George W. Bush on the same issue in 2006, when government surveillance was also in the headlines. …
The number of Americans who think he is honest has dropped nine points over the past month, to 49%.
The fact that the president’s approval ratings on the regular issues of the economy, the deficit, and immigration dropped a few points or so each would seem to confirm that Scandalmania is a huge part of what’s doing it, and the big news is the major drop among the reliably largely pro-Obama youth contingent. Combine that with the 61 percent of Americans who disapprove of the the government’s surveillance and the serious downgrade in trust, and it sounds like the NSA story especially is not helping him maintain his favor among the Millennials — time for another look at the GOP going more libertarian?
Just wait until they SNAP.
I’m surprised it’s only 8.
At this point, polls don’t mean dick. He’s not running for re-election again. And he doesn’t care if there aren’t more than 5 democrats in Congress. He’s going to do what ever he wants.
Don’t think he really gives a rats at this point.
Has he ever? With congress more interested in cocktail parties and tee times, and a SCOTUS in his pocket, the tyant fears nothing.
Among those aged under 30, Obama has seen a 17% (!) drop in approval.
Kids these days... they vote with their feelings instead of their heads....
they’ve been dumbed down by the public schools apparatus. but even as dumb as they are, they can spot a charlatan when they see one.
“At this point, polls dont mean dick.”
Exactly right, it doesn’t mean anything. His approval could be -2........it doesn’t matter.
I guess we must welcome some CNN polls and disregard others. In any event, what difference does it make? Obama is not running again and the Reps will throw him a life preserver by giving him the amnesty he dearly wants. With amnesty, which is forever, and Obamacare, which will not be repealed, Obama has transformed America. Mission accomplished. Damn the polls and full speed ahead.
Totalitarian leaders don’t care about polls.....
Aren’t they racist if they now disapprove of the president?
We’ve been lectured by so many people, from the MSNBC talking heads, to Jimmy Carter, telling us that opposition to this president is due to racism.
17. Do you think the Obama administration has gone too far, has been about right, or has not gone far enough in restricting people’s civil liberties in order to fight terrorism?
June 11-13-2013
Too far 43%
About right 38%
Not far enough 17%
No opinion 1%
55% believe this is about right or not far enough. This worries me more than any of the other polls on there.
RE: Totalitarian leaders dont care about polls.....
The exchange was picked up by microphones as reporters were let into the room for remarks by the two leaders on March 2012.
The exchange:
President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but its important for him to give me space.
President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you
President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

These falling pol numbers just encourage him to pick up the pace, he thinks falling numbers means he is not fundamentally changing America fast enough.
Apparently the GOPe agrees with him!
It’s “only” 8 points because like Chavez, Obama has 35% of voters who will support him regardless of what outrage he commits. Also, the MSM is still running interference for him on these “alleged controversies”...see, according to the MSM it’s only a “scandal” if the Republicans do it.
Of all his scandals I really think it’s the IRS one that is causing the majority of his slipping. Benghazi was long ago and the waters have been muddied. The NSA leak doesn’t bother a lot of people because they don’t think they’re being monitored. But everyone can relate to the IRS, especially since it concerns an organization that most people already hate. The longer that issue continues to drag out the more impact it’ll have on his poll numbers. And since we’re talking special prosecutor then this could go on for some time.
The kids are now affected directly by this latest NSA scandal and also with the total lack of jobs for their demographic. Kids are so enmeshed in their digital lives that any inkling of a breach of privacy they take as an assault on their freedom even though they’re the worst when it come to posting BS about themselves online.
