Within the government and companies who pay the taxes for it, it’s referred to as UI for Unemployment Insurance. I was a veterans representative (career counseling and outreach) and job-seeking skills instructor (welfare & food stamp clients) at a state unemployment office for 14 years and later a supervisor in another state. In my old state, front-line workers who deal with the public now make upwards of $60,000 a year and that state is nowhere near the top of the pay scales.
