MOSCOW — A bill that stigmatizes Russia’s gay community and bans the distribution of information about homosexuality to children was overwhelmingly approved by the lower house of parliament Tuesday.

More than two dozen protesters were attacked by anti-gay activists and then detained by police, hours before the State Duma approved the Kremlin-backed legislation in a 436-0 vote.

The bill banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations” still needs to be passed by the appointed upper house and signed into law by President Vladimir Putin, but neither step is in doubt.

The measure is part of an effort to promote traditional Russian values as opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church see as corrupting Russian youth and contributing to the protests against Putin’s rule.

Liberals are like 2 year olds who desperately want to touch that hot stove. We warn them, we tell them no, but they’re working themselves into a position to get what they want. A totalitarian liberal paradise, that is, a hot stove.

I will so enjoy the bewildered, hurt looks on the liberals faces when they find what they wanted is hurting them more than they ever imagined.

I went there just to read the comments because it was WaPo, but oddly, there were no comments. I was expecting massive amounts of wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Sodomites.

“Stigmatizes”???? I would suggest that the reprehensible sexual practices of homosexuals are what “stigmatizes” them, and that, far from trying to do something that is already an accomplished fact, this legislation is an attempt to halt the LEGITIMIZATION of abhorrent acts.

But this IS the Washington Gay Blade so I wouldn’t expect objectivity.

Having grown up during the Cold War, I never imagined that I would admire the Russians for anything.

Russia and Russian nationalism are far removed from the USSR and atheistic Marxist world revolution.

They are doing it because they know Obama is a flammer and they are mocking him.
