It's happened many times, this one in May of this year:

Wolves Kill 31 Sheep On South-Central Idaho Ranch

excerpt:

Idaho Wildlife Services State Director Todd Grimm says the final mortality count for kills on May 10 and May 12 was 13 ewes and 18 lambs.

Peavey says a state Fish and Game representative determined wolves were to blame and Idaho Wildlife Services has a kill order on at least two wolves in the area.

Wolves don’t hunt for sport. Humans do. They don’t kill 31 female and baby sheep unless they intend to eat them and do eat them. The people who want to hunt wolves are making it look like the wolves are in stealth drone mode. Seriously. All the wolves care about is their next meal and their cubs’ next meal, not making headlines they don’t even read.

The Peavey family is old time Idaho and very good people and ranchers. There are a couple of huge wolf packs in the Ketchum, south central Idaho area...I've seen a winter photo of 25 in a single pack.
This is why the elk population is so down in the mountain west...and why it is open season on them year-round.
