Google's blog post was titled: What the ...?

Google CEO Larry Page and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg are denying reports linking the Internet search company to a secret government program that has provided the National Security Agency access to email and other personal information transmitted on various online services.

One denied a connection via a blog and the other a timeline post.

In a post on the Google blog titled "What the...?" Page said the company hasn't joined any government program allowing the NSA to mine its computers for personal data about users of its search engine, Gmail service or YouTube video service.

Or they are, you know, lying.

I don’t buy it.

Hell they’ve probably flagged conservatives for the NSA themselves.

"President Obama toasts a group of Silicon Valley executives, including Google Chairman Eric Schmidt (far left), Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers (fourth from left), Steve Jobs (to left of Obama), Mark Zuckerberg (right of Obama) and Larry Ellison (directly across from Obama). (White House photo)"

I think there's a reason he had meetings with these people early on in his first term (and he's visited them since then too).

You know, with all this latest privacy spying revelation, I have pretty much quit believing anyone.

That’s where I start.

Then with about 3 proofs, I’ll start paying attention.

Just watched Bourne Legacy. It was supposed latest spy capability. It looked like kindergarten compared to latest news ‘leaks’.

Of course they will - right up to the moment evidence to the contrary comes out.

FACEBOOK denies involvement:
"Facebook is not and has never been part of any program to give the US or any other government direct access to our servers. We have never received a blanket request or court order from any government agency asking for information or metadata in bulk, like the one Verizon reportedly received. And if we did, we would fight it aggressively. We hadn’t even heard of PRISM before yesterday."

GOOGLE denies involvement:
"First, we have not joined any program that would give the U.S. government—or any other government—direct access to our servers. Indeed, the U.S. government does not have direct access or a “back door” to the information stored in our data centers. We had not heard of a program called PRISM until yesterday."

Notice both are VERY SIMILAR?

I doubt something like that goes along with his core beliefs, though. Page has a lot to lose, if this were true. His employees would scream bloody murder, for one.

Of course not, they have INDIRECT access to the servers. Facebook and Google probably send the NSA metadata. Just like the phone companies.

They may be telling the truth. The feds probably just tapped the fiber lines going to these companies data centers. Much easier and only requires the cooperation of the telco’s, which they already have.

Why did they bother? No one is going to believe them and they know it.

I found it VERY curious that both statements are almost identical - see my bolded text above.

They aren’t mining data for PRISM; they own the data and they allow PRISM to mine it (via a rather extended interpretation of the terms of use on their sites).

His employees would have the consequences explained to them if they breathed a word of this. It’s not like fedgov is all that tolerant of leakers. How many years was that Manning kid locked up before his trial? How many other people who went public have been ruined by the feds? Try all of them.
