The House late Wednesday voted to stop the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from entering into new contracts to buy millions of rounds of ammunition until the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports to Congress on the need for the ammo, and its cost.
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) proposed an amendment to the DHS spending bill for 2014 that would require the report to Congress before it can pursue plans to buy 1.1 billion rounds of ammunition. Meadows said the speed bump is a necessary reaction to news of the huge purchase, which alarmed many Americans and prompted conservative groups to suspect that the government was stocking up on the rounds to fight citizens.

We will believe the House means business when it withhold funding from DHS. I’ll believe it when I see it.
The massive sales of ammo to government agencies, besides being scary, helped to create the ammo shortages from retailers around the country.
The goal is to put ammo makers out of business and then of course, the government will have to make their own (and ours). Of course our purchases will be limited to what Davey Crockett would have had.
Wow. Dare we hope?
Finally. The House has been derelict in its duty to keep an eye on what the government spends. There is no reason to fund suspicious purchases such as this one.
Next, they should refuse to release any funds to ObamaCare that they did not specifically approve. That would eliminate the slush fund for “navigators” that will be a bail-out to bankrupt states such as IL.
All of the paramilitary assets they’ve purchased need to be transferred back to the military or sold on the “civilian” market.
This goes for the police as well.
Which was the point all along.
The intent is crystal clear.
The orders will still be placed and filled. Any questions will answered as "rouge purchasing agents in Cincinnati" who didn't get the word, or somesuch BS.
And I'll still be dipping into my stash to feed the .22 appetites of the grandkids this summer.
The dearth of .22LR is baffling, with only the explanation of the ‘73 toilet paper shortage.
“There’s a shortage of .22LR, so if I ever see any, I’m buying all I can get.”
YOU’VE GOT .22LR?!?!?!?
Shh....
....Rep. John Carter, R, Texas.......hmmmm..........taking the side of DHS, a scary rogue agency in the hands of the Marxists if there ever was one. Ole John must have a constituent with a contract with DHS..............only explanation. He should START with NOT BELIEVING a damn thing ANYBODY in the Obama Admin says!
Uh, “earth to John, duuh, there is no reason for non defense agencies to have billions of rounds of ammunition”.
You know, the Sun comes up and the Sun goes down, that kind of thing!
Connect all the dots, people: Massive spying on citizens’ telephone calls, political harassment of conservatives by the IRS, massive purchases of ammo by an out-of-control DHS, outrageous attempts of gun control, shameless propaganda by a lapdog media, etc.
Naw, this isn’t an emerging police state. /s
I think that idiot GOP Congressman from Texas needs to be voted out of office.
Aim small, miss small. :)
Same here. What exactly has this Congress withheld funding on for this admin? I’m sure there has to be something...I just can’t think of anything.
Doesn’t this require passage by the Senate and Preezy if it’s already funded? I can’t imagine either of those two things happening.
My Dad’s got 16 bricks of .22LR CCI Velocitor 40gr HP, which I bought for him over the past 2yrs, at $10.50-$11.50/500. He’s got my old ‘58 Mossberg 144LS Bolt Action, 5-rnd mag target rifle ($31.95 at Sears), w/ 10x Bushnell scope, which I used at BSA summer camp, shooting NRA competition (w/Lyman peep sights), in the late-50s/early-60s.
