The development of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) (see The Curriculum Reformation) i.e., national education standards, dates back to the first Bush administration, when Secretary of Education, Lamar Alexander, called for voluntary national standards and testing. After the Clinton administrations attempt failed in the mid-1990s, efforts to implement national standards lay dormant until the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation decided to make them a top priority. Beginning in 2007, the foundation funded the development of national English and math standards. It also supported organizations like Achieve, the National Governors Association (NGA), (basically a Rockefeller Association), the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) which under the auspices of the School to Work Opportunities Act moved to implement comprehensive reform and the best international lessons for the global work force, and the Fordham Institute, (who believes conservatives should support CC) all of which advocated for national standards. Link
The NGA and CCSSO are D.C. trade associations, neither of which had a grant of legislative authority from the states to write national school standards. Both of them along with Achieve have accepted $27 million from Gates Foundation. Bill Ayers political connections, (with both Obama and his Education Czar, Arne Duncan, through the Annenberg Challenge), has been instrumental in promoting Common Core.
Zeev Wurmana Silicon Valley high-tech executive and former federal education official who played a central role in developing Californias standardssays that the Gates Foundations total investment in the national standards reached $100 million last year. The Foundation has plans to spend another $150 million.
Senator Lamar Alexander published an op-ed in which he claimed that the Obama Administration has allowed increased state choice in schools:

I don’t like Lamar Alexander.
But seriously....Trotskyite?
Have you ever read Trotsky?
Respected by whom?
Stay out da Bushes!!
Sounds like he got respect here but not much love.
Lamar Alexander has always been a fraud.
He is an inside the beltway lawyer that runs for office in a flannel shit and old beat up pickup truck. Meanwhile, he’s made millions off his insider deals.
Between the rino hold on political power, stories of islamist training camps and, of course, all things algore, I pray the state can overcome.
Lamar! and my own claim to fame..
I have NEVER voted for this liberal mess...
How many teachers can teach to that level? Is CC just another "New Math" or "New Science" fancy tableau which few understand or can teach? Minding the mind not fads: (real learning) that is a far cry from the educational 'turf' wars our young are caught up in since the Federal Government took over education in America.
Freepers need to see the movie “Harodim”. I’m gonna tell you one thing kid...Bilderbergers.
I agree.
Lamar Alexander is still popular in Maryville, where they don’t know his real record.
TN has had lots and lots of frauds since Davy Crockett moved to TX. Wonder why; many in TN are really nice people; probably just super-uninformed. I remember when people once put “faith” in Howard Henry Baker, Jr., and what a disappointment he was.
Hopefully Jeb Bush’s public endorsement of turning America into Brave New World will put a stop to his ambitions.
George W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, George Shultz and your children — how are they linked? Why does it matter?
And who is George Shultz? How did he help rewrite history, redefine morality, and prepare America to accept the new socialist values that are paving the way to the new world order?
If you are as concerned as I am about America’s shift from traditional values and factual education to global values and psycho-social strategies for “lifelong learning,” you would want to know the answers. You might also wonder why Texas Governor George W. Bush would choose George Shultz, who negotiated the 1985 U.S.-USSR Education Exchange Agreement, as advisor on his presidential exploratory committee. Or why Robert Dole chose Shultz as an advisor during his quest for the presidency in 1996....

A flannel WHAT? That’s one Stupid Human Trick I’d tune in for.
When Lamar! was governor (and a university president) he constantly cried that education is a state issue. We see where that has gone.
when prince albert was in office we had a demonrat gov, that was followed by we need an income tax traitor gop gov, we now have a moderate gop gov. The Lt Gov Ramsey should have been the winner of that election, but our crazy primaries eliminated both conservatives. HEY guys one of you have to give up so one conservative can win instead of the mods.
Our primaries are the problem. When 2 strong conservatives run against a moderate, the moderate wins every time. Neither conservative will back down, even if they are polling at the bottom of the list. And pull out and support the winning conservative, which would change TN politics. We are fighting sharia law take over now. As well as large cities taking over education for their counties which are many small cities...i.e. cesspit Memphis. They ruined their system, now want to ruin the entire counties. City and County had different systems, yes not cost effective, but only way to prevent busing and bad education. Memphis gave up it’s school charter and wants to run the whole thing. Which they would as they have a bigger pop that the small towns in Shelby Co.
We have fled the cesspit for Tipton Co, now a GOP stronghold.
see what we are up against. Rep Shipley is a conservative, see what happened when he stood up for us at the Manchester mussie meeting with the hacks from 0’s admin on hate speech against mussies, any word about their pervert religion is hate speech now.
