My steps to reducing divorces and restoring the greatness of America:
1. End No Fault Divorces.
2. End Marriage Penalty Taxes
3. End welfare benefits for single family households.
4. Increase taxes for single family households.
There is more that could be done. But if these simple steps were implemented; marriages, childen and families would prosper and the economy would naturally follow.
Taxes should be used to raise funds for governments’ legitimate activity. No to manipulate citizen behavior. That path leads to tyranny.
I found out a couple of years ago that one of my sets of g-g-g-g-grandparents were divorced in 1827. I have no idea why, but based on her will, she ended up with all of the property. This is the divorce decree, and it actually required an act of Congress to get the divorce:
ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE State of Georgia, PASSED IN MILLEDGEVILLE AT AN ANNUAL SESSION IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, 1827. [missing title] Divorces. 1827 Vol. 1 — Page: 85 Sequential Number: 058. Full Title: AN ACT to divorce and separate Hannah Irvin and Charles Irvin her husband. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and immediately after the passing of this act, the matrimonial connection or civil contract of marriage made between Hannah Irvin and Charles Irvin her husband, shall be, and is completely annulled, set aside and dissolved, as fully and effectually as if no such contract had ever been made and entered into between them. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said Hannah Irvin and Charles Irvin her husband, shall in future be held as separate and distinct persons, altogether unconnected by any mystical union or civil contract whatever, at any time heretofore made or entered into between them.
