Shared parenting is a terrible idea (I speak as a child of divorce) and I’m surprised to see it endorsed on FR. It comes out the leftist concept that there is no difference between the sexes, that a mother and father are equal — the same ideology that fuels the movement for homosexual marriage. Children need a consistent, stable environment, with one set of rules. Bouncing back and forth between two realities is detrimental to the child. As conservatives, we need to work toward strengthening marriages and helping people learn not to have children before they are emotionally and financially prepared to care for them.
This is not true for all. And the same can be said for children in a family where there is no stability...abuse, alcoholism, drugs, constant fighting.
Yes, it would be wonderful if there were no divorce and the breakup of a family, but it's not that way of the world.
Children can have a consistent, stable environment, with one set of rules if both parents work together for the childrens' welfare.
It's not the perfect solution but it can work. My ex and I worked it out.

Yes, this is true. But it's more than that. Don't marry someone you want to change, or has different life goals, or because you are in lust with them.
