Police in Hinesville have made an arrest in a shooting early Sunday morning involving a homeowner and intruder.

According to police, a Fort Stewart soldier, living at the Colonial Park Condos, 1100 Pineland Ave., was upstairs with his wife shortly after midnight when he heard someone enter his residence. He then went downstairs and confronted the intruder with a firearm. The two men exchanged gunfire.

The homeowner was taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center.

A man later showed up at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville with a gunshot wound. He said he had been shot walking down the street.

Chief of Detectives Maj. Thomas Cribbs confirmed that the man at Liberty Regional Medical Center was the intruder in the earlier shooting and was arrested and is charged with aggravated assault, burglary and possession of marijuana. He continues to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

The homeowner and Fort Stewart soldier that was shot has not been identified and his condition is not known at this time.

Sounds like he needed a higher capacity clip.

Was he using an M1 Garand? or an Enfield?

“Was he using an M1 Garand? or an Enfield?”
Yes, the purists among us know not to say “clip” when magazine is the correct term.
Maybe we can settle on “ammunition holding thingy” /S

Clip vs. magazine aside, had the soldier employed a Garand or SMLE the chances of the perp walking away would be slight, I’d wager.

Hope he’s OK.

I’d appreciate having at least one of each.

Only an idgit says clip when they mean charger. So what did you mean? The Garand uses enbloc clips, while most Enfields use chargers, often but mistakenly called clips. Early Enfields did not have the charger guide.

I know common usage has been to call chargers clips, but just because everyone has been doing it for 50 years is no excuse to us purists, right?

“...is charged with aggravated assault, burglary and possession of marijuana.”

He SHOT the homeowner. If breaking into a private residence with intent to rob the home then shooting at/actually hitting the owner isn’t attempted murder, then what is?

LOL.

I know most of us Freepers know this stuff.

On top of the Garand is a guide so you can feed a stripped clip into it and fill up on high velocity lead.

Negative. The Garand won't take a charger, just an enbloc clip. You are thinking of the M14.

All should note that the perp in this case is being treated for *multiple* gunshot wounds.

I would suggest that the homeowner made a mistake by “going hunting”, instead of finding a covered position and letting the perp come to his field of fire. I would prefer fewer hits on the perp if I don’t get any myself.

As a rule of thumb, the perp has adrenaline, and maybe alcohol and drugs going for him, so I would never assume my bullet launcher will be enough, especially if he can return fire.

Finally, if I put several into him, and he still has enough chutzpah to charge, he is going to run headlong into my backup knife, and that will cool his jets.

Wait, wait, wait!

Let me clarify and be more exact/correct.

I have a 1903, 2 Garands and two Springfield M1A(luv these guns!)

1903 uses a stripped, grand is en bloc and M1A has mag but! you can use strippers on it as well.

Sorry for the confusion.

I’m buying two more Garands from “Garand Guy” and I’m gonna mod them into AR’s shooting .308.

His rfiles are cheap compared to CMP. $2,500 for the rifles and the mod kit which I do in about an hour.

Not a fan of 223-556. A preference thing. My brother prefers AR and NAT.

I prefer a long distance cordless drill that doesn’t just drive tacs but, will blow your mind.

.308 and above fits the bill for me.

I just helped a friend buy his 1st gun. Glock 19.

He started talking about a Mossberg 500 and how he was going to. “rack it” and that would be enough to scare an intruder.

Told him “Nope. Racking is the same as sending a ping to his radar”

Gun should already be loaded but, in any case, if he comes to you ...empty whatever’s been weighing heavy on his chest and the gun, reload repeat.

I am a huge fan of strippers/chargers. They are far less bulky than mags to carry and reloading can be lightning fast.
