Are you ready to lose your house...have your IRA account emptied...have every nickel of your social security check seized? In the 90's my state sent me a letter,out of the blue,that I owed $29K in back taxes.After having passed out and then contemplated suicide I hired a lawyer.Long story short...after a year of submitting hundreds of documents and sweating bullets...it was determined that I *did* owe them $$.Not $29K...or $2.9K...or $290.I owed them $78.I was enraged! The lawyer said that he had heard of such cases but had never personally handled one.He said it was some fat a$$ed sister-in-law of a hack politician just picking a number out of the air.When I said I was gonna demand an apology he laughed and said that that wouldn't happen before hell froze over.
