In the upper Midwest, I think it’s still safe to have my boys in scouting... for now. I’m done giving money to the BSA, but I will still volunteer as a scout leader and contribute to our local council. But when the BSA caves in with regard to gay leadership, and they will someday, my kids will be out and I’ll be done with the BSA. And the BSA will be finished as an organization anyway.
How hot does the water need to get before the frog should jump out?
There are already demands that the BSA open up leadership positions to gays. Within a few years if not sooner, the ban on gay leaders will be dropped.
I can respect your decision. But you may find yourself increasingly uncomfortable when Boy’s Life magazine, The Scout Manual and Merit badge booklets all begin to incorporate this new policy.
