Boy Scout Oath
“On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to GOD and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.”
Boy Scout Law
“A Scout is:
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful,
Friendly, Courteous, Kind,
Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty,
Brave, Clean, Reverent”
My source: Boy Scouts of America
The definition of “god” is different in different cultures and Boy Scouts transcends the Judeao-Christian culture
So the spiritual Creator your boys are pledging to is different than what the boys in India Pakistan Israel Africa and 150 other countries and numerous cultures think they are pledging to
But hey. It's all good
Now we'll have to see what the atheists define as their higher spiritual power and how they may amend the oath
For GS they have taken the language and definitions of reverent spirituality described by WSO and when reciting the GS Promise may substitute a name other than “God” that reflects their higher spiritual belief. I'm sure many GS troops here and abroad are using “Allah” instead of God, BS probably also
What has crossed my mind is this. Given the relatively low population of gays, and atheists for that matter, how many of them will actually join the Scouts? I would suspect not many.
So let's say for the sake of conjecture..maybe one or two per troop join. I actually think that would be a high estimate. And the Scouts stick to their original oath with no change. How would a young “afflicted” person hold up against the teachings and thoughts involved. Probably not many. Especially since a lot of them really don't deep down believe this tripe. It's just fashionable to do so in today's time.
If there are lawsuits...sorry guys...you knew what we were about. We allowed you membership..sorry you don't like it.
I don't think many really want to be scouts. Their parental units want lawsuits and to destroy an establishment that has done a lot of good in the past.
They need to cut off all federal funding as well. But with the lack of private funding and future participation that probably won't happen.
I guess I'm having an idealistic moment. The Gay Mafia and the Madelyn Murray O’Hare Coalition have won...yet again. Or maybe I'm just having a tantrum because this is so wrong.
