Switzerland does not have a standing army, but the people are heavily armed.

Actually, Switzerland does have a standing army combined with a citizens’ “militia”. For males, military service is “compulsory” and females may volunteer. Upon screening about 2/3rd of young 18 year old Swiss men are found suitable for military service and go onto training. The “unsuitable” usually are required to do some sort of alternative service.
The “militia” are required to keep their military weapons (and ammunition) at home to have it available at a moment's notice. I suspect the number of home invasions in Switzerland is minimal.
My knowledge of this is somewhat dated but I haven't read about significant changes in Switzerland's defense approach in recent years.
