Yes, this is true. But I think my point still stands - this doesn’t affect districts that are allowing teacher CHLs to carry on campus, so that continues as before. It lets some districts with OMGs to present this as “hey, they’re going to be trained like cops and basically be cops, so you don’t have to worry about that” and it puts pressure on the NO GUNZ EVAR districts to get their heads out of their nether regions.
In a couple more legislative sessions down the road, just like with CHL, we can work on loosening the restrictions further. And as the ongoing CHL process shows, the OMGs often are less and less heeded as restrictions are slowly removed and they are proven wrong.
It should also be pointed out that such incrementalism is also extremely hard to roll back in sweeping changes like the lefties will want to do should they ever get the state government back.
