Republican candidate Gabriel E. Gomez ignited controversy on Thursday by calling his Democratic opponent for US Senate, a sitting congressman, “pond scum,” in an interview with a National Public Radio reporter on Thursday.

Asked whether his candidate regretted his remarks, spokesman Will Ritter recounted that Gomez not only didn’t regret it, but went further in a television interview Thursday evening:

“I was surprised at the controversy,” Ritter recounted Gomez saying. “Pond scum currently has a higher approval rating than Congress.”

The left does not apologize but doubles down. Looks like the rabbit punches are about to start on the right.

This is good. Conservatives need to start calling rats what they are. Nazis, communists, liars and mass murderers are other appropriate names for rats.

Unfortunately, Gomez is NO conservative, but a La Raza liberal.

Having watched Markey over the years, I cannot for the life of me understand why Gomez is sugar coating his description of him.

There’s no way I could vote for Ed Markey but what can you say about a GOP candidate who gave money to Obama as well as
moonbat Senate candidate Alan Khazei. Still, compared to
Markey...
MA GOP= Democrat
MA Dem= Communist

I’m not a fan of Gomez but I’ll give him kudos for telling it like it is. Markey is vile but, unfortunately, he’ll win

Yeah, Gomez trying to get the base back...whatever “base” exists right now in Taxachussetts.

I went to the Gomez web site, read his “Issues” page...not impressed. He sounds like a Democrat. He can shove it.

for all those who are afraid to fight: what have we got to lose? What have we got to gain?

Were I his advisor, I’d tell Gomez to stay on the full-force attack until election day. He’s extremely likely to lose by a wide margin, so what the hell... have a little fun!!

Gomez is up Markey ~ as long as he beats Markey it's a good day.

Seriously, Markey is the sort of Democrat we have to plan on deporting to an exile of his choice as soon as we take over the gub'mnt. The man has no business whatsoever in America.

When is that special election?

If I'm not mistaken, I saw a poll showing Markey leading by only single digits.

June 25th. Tax records for both were to be released today. Howie Carr will be looking into those. Especially how the now multi millionaire pond scum gave to charity.

May 9 WBUR poll, Markey by 6

http://www.wbur.org/2013/05/09/markey-gomez-senate-poll

>>Markey’s six-point edge expands to an eight-point margin — 46 to 38 percent — when undecided voters leaning toward one candidate or the other are included.

“Either way you look at it — with leaners or without leaners — you’ve got a race within single digits coming out of the primary,” says Steve Koczela, president of the MassINC Polling Group, which conducted the survey for WBUR. “You’ve got a competitive race.”
The WBUR poll is in line with a Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey released Friday that showed a tight race — 44 to 40 percent for Markey, a Democrat. But it differs sharply from a Suffolk University/WHDH-TV poll, released Wednesday night, that gives Markey a 52 to 35 percent lead.

Markey releases taxes, paid 20 percent federal rate
Friday, May 24, 2013 By: Hillary Chabot and Joe Battenfeld

Democratic Senate candidate Edward Markey finally made public his tax returns for the first time in his 37-year congressional career today showing he paid about a 20 percent federal tax rate on his annual salary of $161,443.

A summary of Markey’s returns released by his campaign showed he paid $32,399 to the federal government in 2012 and $7,333 in taxes to the state, for a combined rate of nearly 25 percent. Markey filed separately from his wife.

Markey released his returns dating back to 2005 and has largely paid around the same rate every year. The lowest rate he paid to the federal government was just under 18 percent in 2008 and a combined 22% in state and federal taxes. Markey’s decision to make public his tax returns was timed for the Friday before a holiday weekend in an attempt to minimize the impact on his campaign. He had been delaying putting the returns out for more than a week despite Democrats attacking Gomez for failing to release enough years of his returns.

Gomez, a millionaire Cohasset businessman, made public his tax returns spanning the years 2006-2011 during his primary campaign in March. Gomez also paid about a 20 percent rate on his annual income. Markey was elected to Congress in 1976 and owns a home worth more than $1 million in the affluent Washington suburb of Chevy Chase, Maryland.
