Art Imitating Life: Benghazi, Obama, and Kirk Douglas
American Thinker ^ | May 23, 2013 | Lloyd Marcus

Kirk Douglas played a down-on-his-luck news reporter... a man named Leo was trapped in a collapsed cave...Keeping Leo trapped for at least seven days could revive Douglas's career. He had exclusive access to Leo. Writing daily updates could produce tremendous financial rewards; it could land Douglas a job with a major newspaper and a possible Pulitzer Prize.

Folks, I was struck by how closely the scenario in the movie paralleled real-life current events. After the movie, I told my wife, "Oh my gosh, I just watched the Obama administration in Benghazi"...

Marcus finds an excellent analog for this administration's treachery. I just ordered the film from Netflix, as I am a fan of Douglas (father, certainly not junior) and director Billy Wilder.

And while I didn't use General Scott's love affair with Ele Holbrook to knock him down... photo KirkDouglas-7DaysMay-1.gif I see you did use General Petraeus' affair with Paula Broadwell to get him out of the way.

I just love it, Kirk, when a plan... photo Obama-6L.gif comes together!

I am dumbfounded that some military people somewhere didn’t say the hail with that, I am going in. You know there is a saying about it being easier to apologize later than seek permission earlier.........

Apparently one or two commanders did just that and were immediately relieved of command by their XOs on orders from above. Those two SEALs who died saving 3o or so people did that. They weren’t military, though, and didn’t have XOs to sequester them.

On the strength of this post, I watched Ace in the Hole. It's an excellent movie.

The parallels between the corrupt journalist and the corrupt government official (sheriff) in the movie and those in 21st century America are breathtaking.

The movie also shows in stark black-and-white, exactly what corruption is, how easy it is for honest people to be seduced into it, and why resistance to it and rejection of it are so vitally (!) important.

Just as Leo paid the ultimate price for their corruption in the movie, so will the American People in 21st century real life, if the forces of good and light do not prevail.

Many scenes and many lines are stunning.

One that stands out is the corrupt sheriff's remark that if they get Leo out alive they'll get credit for it but if they don't...well...they will have done everything they could.

Another: When the wife says, "You love those rocks as much as I do," referring to the rocks that are holding Leo in the cave.

And there's the haunting and unforgettable embroidery: "TELL THE TRUTH," which brings a sneer and a laugh to the corrupt journalist Chuck Tatum, whose career depends upon embroidering truth, and will do the same to the corrupt journalists of 21st century America.

How quaint the honest newspaperman, Booth, appears in 21st century America, in fact far more quaint and passé than in the remote Albuquerque of 1951, showing how far into the depths of decadence and corruption the USA has sunk during the past 68 years.

The American People are locked in a Manichaean struggle, between the forces of evil and the forces of good, for the soul of America. President Trump has championed the forces of good. Pray that he will succeed.

In the end of Ace in the Hole, the corrupt journalist realized the extent to which he had succumbed to the forces of evil. Pray that American journalists--and politicians--and their all those who have succumbed to the decadence and corruption--will come to the same realization before they succeed in destroying America.

Ace in the Hole is an excellent movie, an excellent work of art, an excellent parable, and an excellent warning to all honest people in contemporary America! Pray that they heed the warning!
