I never understood the point of Gitmo in the first place: it’d be like impounding tomcats for fighting on the back fence.
Drop ‘em off over the Atlantic whenever you catch one.
It's an issue dear to the far, far left...so far left that it's hard to even have a clue where they're coming from:
1) They've always objected to our presence in communist Cuba.
2) They think that if you are nice to the jihadis and "educate" them they lose their hostility.
3) They object to the US military in general so want it all to be handled in the civilian arena.
That's about it. Sounds ridiculous and even they are beginning to see how ridiculous it sounds. The only reason Obama is pushing it today is he's making a weak attempt to rally the troops who have nothing to hold onto amidst the scandals.
