Obama to Restart Transfers From Guantanamo By JULIAN E. BARNES, EVAN PEREZ and ADAM ENTOUS
WASHINGTONThe Obama administration is set to restart transfers of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, U.S. officials said, kick-starting a long-stalled drive to close the prison.
In a speech Thursday, President Barack Obama will reassert his case that closing Guantanamo is crucial to U.S. counterterrorism goals. While he isn't planning to detail in the speech how to speed up transfers from the prison, officials said the president in coming weeks plans to lift the administration's prohibition on sending detainees to Yemen.
The president in the speech also is set to lay down the broader outlines of his administration's approach to efforts to fight al Qaeda and its affiliates, including through the use of unmanned aircraft strikes.
Ahead of the president's speech, the administration told Congress in a letter Wednesday that four Americans have been killed in drone strikes, the first official acknowledgment of the deaths by the government. Attorney General Eric Holder wrote that only Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric, was specifically targeted. Mr. Awlaki was killed in a drone strike in September 2011.

This is what happens when potheads are in charge.
Transferring them where? We transferred one to Libyan prison, and he somehow got out of prison when the US was helping our enemies overthrow another enemy. Then that terrorist killed our ambassador and three other Americans. I think Bambi wants more dead Americans. The more the better. Funerals make for great photo ops for pretenders.
Uhhhh .. I'll letthe detaineesOUT ... uhhh ... of guntamin ... gonetothemall ... uhhhh ... Gitmo ...
Yeah man ... That's the ticket.
The president is apparently stoked by the Woolwich murder.
Aren’t potheads kinda lazy and sleepy, not doing much more than hanging out eating Twinkies? It’s the *cokeheads* who have all the energy...who want to get things done! Oh,Osama has admitted to being a cokehead as well? Never mind!
Is he going to transfer them here?
So they can convert American prisoners to islam?
So they can be released by moron American judges and then behead us in the streets like they do in Britain.
No, thank you, Mr. muslim pResident.
The level of uncontrolled chaos increases around him tied to his hubris....
FR-er Shrinks, do you see any signs that he is coming unglued?
Who has the football?
Like birth pangs the contractions of these messes are increasing at a frequency that has my eyebrow raised....
Hail Mary play to bolster support among his extreme left base as the scandals look increasingly sticky.
Quite coincidental with the beheading of a soldier in the UK today.
Makes ya wonder... many things. Too many things.
This guy only changes in that he is dumb one moment and dumber the next.
You can’t try terrorists in open court.
You shouldn’t bring them to the mainland, because it will draw terrorists like flies, to disrupt the process.
This f’r wants trouble on our soil. There’s no doubt about it.
I don’t know why we even detain them, just kill their asses.
He wants to transfer them to Yemen, where they never have prison breaks! LOL!
Why is the president giving a speech Thursday? His own staff says he doesn’t know anything about anything.
Depending on what they did, that may be the very thing they deserve.
72 Virgins Helen Thomas style.
Nothing good ever comes from Pakistan or Yemen.
Presumably this time they will be let go to fight "for" us in Syria, and will end up killing a bunch of Americans at some future date, as good little al Qaeda terrorists are now so accustomed to do.
I’ve really got nothing against the people of most nations. The problem is, we have a large terrorist element within a number of nations across that region. Why are we allowing free travel back and forth?
We should have zones where nobody but nobody gets through.
Why do we have to endure the terrorism these people’s fellow citizens perpetrate on us?
During the cold war we restricted travel. Today we could do it too. Why not?
This is just nuts. Our leaders are careless and incompetent.
That sounds like a good plan to me.
will not happen. just wants yet another controversy to come into play to distract the masses from benghazi, irs, the alabama birth certificate trial, AP, fox, fast and furious. what is just one more distraction?
Bronco Bama's not gonna off his co-religionists.
Yemen, what the...
What the hell is the point of even capturing them then ><
True. It would be a real shame if a massive fire broke out at Gitmo’s Camp Delta...
Wonder if Dear Leader is going to publicly admit he wants to arm AQ affiliates? Prolly not
"A 13-page letter delivered to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel cites worsening conditions and leadership failures comparable to those that led to the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday."

It's just, humane, and we'll save money too!! Who could argue against that 'cept the Scandal Fishin' Team? /s
An attempt to rally ‘the base’.
Divert, divert, divert.
Anything to get people to stop thinking about his treasonous (literally) actions regarding Benghazi.
So now that congress has approved 200 million to upgrade the prison, Obama is going to move everyone out of it.
Make it easy, just close the prison, let the prisoners run free in Cuba and give the Cubans the 200 mil to keep them.
To Chicago. It would improve the gene pool.
Confidential to jihad types: we're lo-jacking their arse, tied to the targeting system of a drone. The device is implanted right beside their heart. Or is it in their liver? Maybe both. Welcome your comrades with open arms, preferably not around children, though. Enjoy.
Right.. Let’s transfer them to Yemen, where prison breaks seem to magically happen on a regular basis... Like when the guards are “overpowered” and hundreds escape at a time. We’ll eventually find them on our streets.
At least in Yemen, he could get them with a drone.
He’s probably going to try and make productive citizens out of them... perhaps they’ll get jobs at the IRS.
Guantanamo is more respected by Muslim radicals than gay marriage.
Benghazi in June. Sand, Sharia and .....
I love the Rubio commercial touting the proposed immigration bill.
He says that ‘undocumenteds’ will undergo background checks and pay a fine.
Huh? These people are here because they broke the laws of this country to begin with. So all of a sudden, they are all gonna start obeying any new laws that your gang of eight might get passed?
Pay a fine? Marco really does not know his target audience, does he...
...”the president .... to lift the prohibition on sending detainees to Yemen.”
...”the president .... is to set efforts to fight al Qaeda and its affiliates.”
Ugh? What an ‘insane’ contradiction!!!
This is not really a diversion, but rather, doing something that will go under the radar in the midst of these other scandals.
Dubya should have cut loose with military tribunals on these guys, with executions where appropriate. Housing these scum long term at Gitmo so they can wait around be released by a fool like Obama was always a losing proposition.
I think you’re right. I hear them mumbling. Of all the things they should be mumbling about . . . but no, he said he’d close Guantanamo.
And why to Yemen? The worst of the worst. The terrorists there will break them out of prison.
Two birds with one stoned . . . er, stone.
Plus there has been so much bleeding-heart nonsense SOMEWHERE in the leftist press about the hunger strikes. Probably Russian TV or the BBC. I hear it daily. How terrible force-feeding is weep weep.
The guy who started this hunger strike business is, I seem to recall, the worst of the worst of the prisoners.
“Well eventually find them on our streets.”
