For those that said Issa didn’t know what he was doing...I submit this..

Yes, he did.

You called it during the live thread, RC!

Now, will Issa apologize to Gowdy for the public smack down?

Y’know... I’m in as much of a hurry as anyone to see IRS thugs frog-marched to a cell in minimal time... but it’s becoming clear Issa is playing the long game. I get it now. And he’s masterful.

I suspect Issa did not know, if he really knew he would have forced the issue on the spot after Gowdy pointed it out.

That being said, I hope she comes back and has to spill her guts out.

This may be fun after all.......

He didn’t this morning....his committee’s lawyers obviously did some research during the lunch break and told him that she had effectively waived her right to remain silent when she gave her statement.

Issa blew it!

What can you expect from a former car thief turned congress critter?

Issa did not know what he was doing. He just wasn’t sure Trey Grady knew what he was saying.

I also suspect that Gowdy told Issa that he better not screw this hearing up and get her back ASAP. Doubt Gowdy was subtle about it.

We shall see...but I will tentatively retract my criticism of Issa in light of this position. IF he hauls her back and IF every question that needs to be asked is asked, and she takes the 5th, then I will make it complete.

Issa has been such a paper tiger on so many issues, it will be great, not to mention “unexpected”, to see him take a firm stance for once.

I don’t know about that, RummyChick.

What happens if she returns and says I plead the 5th again and then answers nothing?

What happens if she shows up again and say I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t remember, I can’t recall, I was baking cookies for my daughter.

What happens if she doesn’t show at all?

If she in fact waived her right, then why did Issa dismiss her? Why did he not inform her of such then and there, then put her to the question, then jail her for contempt upon her non response?

Anyhow, I’m just posing those questions in general, not specifically to you, I guess we have no choice but to see what happens next.

Honestly, I think he was as stunned as everyone else when she waived her rights. In his brain there had to be a WTF hesitation.

I think it was good that he held back. The entire content of questioning and testimony has now changed.

There's another thread running where Freepers are slapping Izza around like a pinata....eating their own as usual. I was going to comment, but I was so disgusted with the comments that I respectfully declined to post on the grounds I would be banned forever.

Issa did everything right...and he entrapped the perp perfectly. Don't forget that he knew what to do.....because every eventuality in testimonies, no matter how bizarre, is anticipated and prepared for BEFOREHAND by committee counsels and staff.

We can rest assured that in her next "round" Madame Lerner will not escape unscathed as every move on her part and her attorneys' part is under discussion as we type....and the proper script for Rep. Issa to checkmate the arrogant slickster-ette is being constructed, NOW.
