Tornado warnings up in Oklahoma. Watches in TX, OK, KS, MO, far NW Arkansas.
Saw Fox News video of the destruction in Moore, OK. Have a young lady who canters for my parish choir who is from OK herself. She is getting married this coming Octtober. Hopefully not out there doing any pre wedding plainning stuff and is still in CT working.

Understood, hence the quotes. but 2 miles wide you have a chance to get out of the danger zone - not like a hurricane or something.

Just now, water treatment plant for SE OK City is down - so don’t use the water. (I believe we talked about that on another thread awhile ago.)
Water system knocked out - don’t drink the water in south Oklahoma City. Just heard this.
I lived in a similar area in Ohio. We were down in with tons of trees. It could be entirely different weather up the hill. We would have no wind and cool temps but in town just a mile away it would be hot and windy.
Sounds as though you are somewhat protected. We just moved to this house a few weeks ago which is in the lowest part of the neighborhood. Our last home house was in the same development but at the highest point. Used to be able to see what was coming at us but now, not so much.
Underpasses are extremely dangerous in a tornado. The wind actually speeds up to get the same amount of air through a tighter area.
Just sent a text to my DIL in that regard in case she’s not watching tv.
Just heard on Fox that Obummer is closely monitoring the whole OK situation and in touch with FEMA...
Sorry to go political at such a dire moment but when I heard this, I felt SO much better as I’m sure everyone in OK did.../snarky sarcasm.

I was in Winters and the dust storms were raging. I couldn’t write at my desk because of the sand on the paper. I kept dusting it off and finally gave up and headed back to the main office in Abilene. It was hard staying on the highway with the winds. Then a wee little bit of rain came, just enough to turn the sand into mud. No one could see out their windshields. You couldn’t pull over because then someone would plow into you so it was a mess. I had a coke and squirted that on the windshield a couple times before it was empty. Scary, scary drive. When I did get back to Abilene, the car was solid mud and was told winds were 76 mph. You couldn’t pay me enough to live out there again.
Sharing a culvert with a pissed off cotton mouth is not my idea of protection. I had one on my porch about 4 pm at height of a nasty hail storm in my area (eastern OKC metro).Water and hail bring them out seeking shelter.
Briarwood School and nearby day care center all got out alive.

These are some serious storms!
If you kept driving 200 miles to get out of SPC moderate risk or higher severe weather areas(if you lived in Moore, mind you, you'd have to do this probably 4-5 times a year) your imaginary children would be in FAR more danger of dying in a car accident than in a tornado.
Yeah, this is exactly why we’ve talked about having water stored in case of an emergency.
