E.W. Jackson, a minister and attorney from Chesapeake, pulled off a stunning upset last night, topping six rivals for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Jackson fended off a late charge by Pete Snyder, a Northern Virginia technology entrepreneur, capping an epic four-ballot battle at the Richmond Coliseum that lasted nearly 10 hours.

You are as Phariseeical judgmental as you are ignorant. I was making a point that perhaps you were mistaking how to choose a pastor with how to choose a candidate. And I submit that you are. I also am sorry that your faith is so weak you need role models in office. All I ask for are people in government who will leave me alone so that I may apply my faith without their interference. I pity you and your lack of familiarity with what the Bible and the Constitution say about the proper role of secular government in the lives of Christians.
More than anything, what should be noted about black Republican conservatives is that they have character in abundance.
Something that deeply grates on middle and upper-middle class black Americans is being lumped together with poor, often criminal, lower class blacks. No matter how much they have worked to become educated, nor how successful in business and wealth they have become, society often treats them like they are still “ghetto”. It bugs the heck out of them.
And liberal Democrats are the worst offenders with these stereotypes. And over the years it builds up resentment.
However, when a successful and honorable black candidate runs as a conservative Republican, it is a statement to middle and upper-middle class blacks that they represent middle and upper-middle class black *values*. And this character represents much more than skin color.
It is no surprise how much liberal Democrats hate and fear such people. Because each one is a crack in the Democrat monolith of black voters.

Like I said I want a man or woman who has the wisdom of God leading my country.

I love Jackson and if the establishment hadn’t gone with Allen, we might’ve had a conservative senator in 2012.

I think you discount possible fraud...
My precinct voting place moved from a fire station to a black church (nice people). My neighbor who has an unlisted number got called by the NAACP for the first time in his life before the 2012 vote...
I know there was fraud (how else did the House stay Pub) but can give you just this known story that has confirmed my suspicions...
You are the ones who jumped to conclusions...about me...and about who might have the wisdom of God. Not every Christian politician has “the wisdom of God” by any means. And while I would certainly prefer someone leading the country who has the wisdom of God, I am much more able to discern who has the wisdom to leave me alone and it’s much easier to see who has the wisdom of the Founders.
In fact, the wisdom of the Founders was the wisdom of God, and that meant limited Government.
But you have said you were a Corey Stewart fan...
I know Stewart from past interactions during his last campaign...
Because of these, I would not have supported him as a delegate...
But definitely would if he had gotten the LG spot...

After Jeanmarie and Steve were dropped off, he went up and more than doubled the second place vote on the second ballot. Apparently Jeanmarie asked her small number of delegates to vote for the Bishop.
After Susan and Scott dropped for the third ballot, and Scott told his delegates to vote for Pete and other horse trading was going on, he still gained and received 49.7% of the vote. The voting officials looked very hard at each under and over count ballot to verify the count. A few more Jackson ballots would have meant a Jackson victory.
Then it really got intense before the final vote with Pete's camp claiming all of the endorsements including Corey Stewart. That all changed when Corey toured the floor with Bishop Jackson.
It was more fun than I expected. I just had hoped that it won't have lasted so long. After the acceptance speech, presentation of the ticket, and getting out of the Coliseum, it was after 10:30.

Bishop Jackson was my endorsed candidate, but I thought he might get lost in the shuffle with other better-funded candidates (but apparently delivered such a barnburner of a speech, he led every ballot from jump street). I just hope he doesn’t get screwed by the VA GOP like that hapless minister Senate candidate did against Robb in 1988.
Tom Davis’s RINO wife got eliminated immediately, that was a nice touch.
Or that the NJ Gov is suffering from blackmail.
In NJ both parties are dirty. It’s probably just a matter of which side of the aisle is buying off the other.
Where are you getting your information from? In VA Obama beat Romney 51.2% to 47.3% or 3.9% compared to 2008 when he won with 52.6% to 46.3% or 6.3%. I consider an almost 4% margin an easy victory. Obama won nationally by 3.8%, also an easy victory.
4% could hardly be described as an “easy” victory. Anything under 5% could rightly be called “narrow.” I’d tend to call “easy” where it’s barely contested, probably above 15-20%.
I worked closely with them on the Tea Party Convention and was one of the sponsors. I was part of the COLA committee putting together legislation for the General Assembly. I have a great deal of respect for Jamie and Donna.
The Tea Party organizations did not walk in lock step with the Middle Resolution/RTP assessment. I'm very familiar with the interviews and candidate analysis they did.
I am a Tea Party member and a member of Middle Resolution, which is a great organization. I did not participate in these interviews but have participate in other MR candidate interviews.
I am not saying that there was unanimity in the ranking of the candidates. It was a consensus and a worthwhile effort to try to get behind one candidate rather than split support among a number of candidates. In the past, the Tea Party has split its support giving the establishment candidate the advantage. As it worked out, the establishment candidates were defeated. IMO Corey would have a made a much stronger candidate, but we are stuck with Jackson who will no do well against Chopra.
Which delegation were you in? I was in Goochland - and per an earlier thread, we need to get Richmond area Freepers together.
Fairfax County. Although I live in FC, I became a member of the Richmond Tea Party.
I worked as a Rep poll watcher during early voting and election day in 2012 and numerous times during earlier elections including 2008.
The Dems have registered more voters since 2008 and 2012. The have developed a powerful ground game. Kaine got more votes than Obama in 2012.
It remains to be seen how motivated the Dem voters will be during the midterms. They will vote for a rich white guy if they think that their issues are under threat with another Rep in Richmond. And I wonder how motivated Rep voters will be given the leadership of Boehner and Cantor and Rep idiots like Rubio and Ryan who want amnesty.
Why should we want to keep the Reps in control of the House when Boehner doesn't follow the Hastert Rule? If an amnesty passes prior to the midterms, you will see a sharp decline in GOP voting, including myself.
