The letter is a pretty clear indication that these seven Democratic senators wanted the IRS to dig into the activities of 501(c)(4) groups involved in political activity. And I'm sure the folks who received this at the IRS knew that the letter wasn't a request for them to dig into the affairs of Obama's Organizing for America.

These Senators owe the nation an explanation as to why they wanted the IRS to investigate 501(c)(4) groups involved with political issues.

Whoda thunk it? All staunch Conservative Republicans! Do I need a sarc tag?

Carl Levin of Michigan did it in writing as well -

I'm inclined to think this was written as a prop....after the fact that "scrutiny" was already well under way.

In other words, this "request" infers that no such scrutiny has occurred YET.

It's a type of "scrubbing" the record.

“These Senators owe the nation an explanation as to why they wanted the IRS to investigate...”

You have to be kidding? Is there any doubt as to why? They have POWER and want to exercise it.

No one in the press has the integrity to call them on it.

It might be informative to see the replies back from IRS to these senators!

As far as their request for investigation, it may simply demonstrate their ignorance of the law. In any case, the IRS should have properly enlightened them, as SME on the matter.

I don't understand the big deal about the Obamacare enforcement brownshirts (IRS) targeting right-wingers. After all - Obama and his collection goons were just doing as they were told.

Schumer, Franken urged IRS to target tea party in 2012

Long before the Internal Revenue Service revealed it had improperly targeted conservative 501(c)(4) groups, a group of Democratic senators led by New York Sen. Chuck Schumer urged the IRS to do just that.

Last year, Schumer, along with Democratic Sens. Michael Bennet, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jeff Merkley, Tom Udall, Jeanne Shaheen and Al Franken, penned a letter calling on the agency to cap the amount of the political spending by groups masquerading as “social welfare organizations.”

Carl Lenin - Communist (MI) also wrote a letter asking for certain conservative groups to be investigated too. Funny thing, no such request for the Obama groups, media matters, etc.

Watching O’rielly ( yeH I know) tonight he interviewed a business man (Vander Sloot) who after donating to Romney had his name plastered on the internet and smeared as a crook and then was audited by the IRS and the labor Dept. There was a person who worked for a Senate Subcommittee that spent 3 days at the county court house digging for dirt on him.

So there are Sitting U.S. Senators that are DIRECTLY involved in abuse of power and using the IRS to persecute Conservatives.

Mr.Lenin better have his A game in hand because he is going to have to answer some real uncomfortable questions at his next few public meetings!

I hope the rest of you call out your very own Crook Senator(s)

A group can prove it qualifies for 501(c)4 fairly easily. There's no need for any Senator to lean on IRS to fully investigate matters. The typical conservative group had $25,000 per annum average cash flow, with most all of that devoted to your basic insurance policy (for public meetings), government fees, and a modicum of legal fees. The political action is usually on the part of the individual participants! I'm not even sure most of the TEAParty activities actually involve 'politics' ~

501(c)3 is a bit different. That's where you find most of the Leftwingtard foundations and such. You also find Bernie Madoff's cronies in that classification as well ~ they're the ones who knew Bernie was stealing and made sure they got a piece out of him first.

You've never heard of any of those senators demanding IRS take a good look at the nonprofits who were partying down with Bernie's money.

Interesting...Either they were trying to cover up what was going on already, or they didn't see enough action from the IRS and were pushing for more.

Needless to say none of the Senators seem to have raised any issues with Obama's Organizing for America, or any other liberal group.

Do you have a list of how many copies and who received them?

That's a great question! And also the various memos and emails that were written within the IRS as a result of them receiving the letter from the Senators. I'm sure they aren't about to surface.
