My husband and I have been married 41 years July 15th. We’ve been audited MOST of those years. It is always scary to get that letter! SO far, we’ve always been exonerated and have sometimes gotten more back than we claimed. Once we were told we owed less than a dollar, and it instructed us not to pay anything less than $1. So we didn’t. Recently we started having our taxes done. It is pricey, but we rest better!

Same kind of thing happened to me. I kept a small account at BofA and the kids had two piggbank accounts. I cashed a BofA check from a guy who I thought might try to stiff me. I took it straight to BofA cashed the bulk and deposited enough to bring my account to the “free” level.
After I cashed the check, sure enough the chump called BofA and stopped payment. Problem was it had already been cashed. BofA froze all three accounts! And wanted the cash back.
I had the receipt and when I showed the bank manager the slip, you should have seen her face. It was pale then beet red. She very quickly unlocked the accounts disclaimed her collection letter, tried walking back the banks culpibility and started offering free banking services for up to 5 years.
I took the 5 year deal. The real funny part to this story came 6 months later when the bank “lost” three checks on a weekly deposit after the teller listed them on my deposit slip. I closed the account as soon as they found the checks and the problem. I cringe when I see so much ATM/Debit/Credit card usage.
lol have a hot check for ten grand from a client> it makes life miserable.
Was lucky the bank Pres came to my rescue and dumped the 100 check surcharges of 35.00 ea! Because of course I paid my bills with it! The merchants were harder but all rescinded as well! It was finally rectified but it took a broken nose not mine!
