China's entire history is one of ever-expanding territorial claims, which is how a small kingdom on the banks of the Yellow River grew into a continental-scale empire. China's 2000-year-old version of Manifest Destiny that claims all under heaven should make its immediate neighbors nervous. And yet they slumber, giving lip service to strengthening their defenses, while reducing defense budgets.

I had a Chinese friend and he would remind me from time to time that America is just a renegade province.

Gotta give it to the Chinese, they play well on the world stage. Masters at subtle escalations.

Wasn’t that long ago the Japanese wanted the U.S. to remove our military from Okinawa. I suppose they aren’t as anxious about us leaving now.

I hereby lay claim to China on behalf of the Chinese people on the reservations in America. They’ll be there next week. Please have a barbecue ready for them.

I firmly believe that our natural resources have been used as collateral in borrowing money from China. The future will not be pretty.

Next thing China will lay claim to Siberia. Hey, it was part of the Mongol and Kublai Khan’s empire.
