The evolving by the hour IRS scandal, in which the tax agency targeted conservative groups for examination and harassment, as detailed by the Washington Post, cries out for not only an investigation, but legislation.
To be sure an investigation and the punishment of those responsible for politically motivated examinations and audits must happen. But the fact that the IRS did these things at all stems from the fact that someone wanted to target conservative organizations and perhaps people and, thanks to the existence of the IRS, they could. This therefore argues for an overhaul of the tax code that would lead either to the abolishment of the IRS or at least the massive curtailment of its power to delve into the intimate financial lives of Americans and use its powers to make those lives a hell.

Now is the time for all good men to advocate a FLAT TAX for all in the wagon and those pulling the wagon.
Ding Ding Ding, We have a winner!
Abolish the IRS and close all Rogue or Unconstitutional Federal Departments.
DO IT!
No, it won’t happen, but it SHOULD!
Repeal the 16th amendment, and the 17th too!
Get rid of the 17th amendment while we’re at it...
Yep.
This should have taken place when Slick Willy used the IRS to intimidate ladies that came out against him.
This is sooooo freakin un-American. Besides, in a courtroom, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. So, why the hell are you guilty until you prove your innocence with the IRS.
Totally un-American.......YES! Abolish the IRS!
Y E S!
A quick dose of reality folks.
The Federal Income tax and the IRS provide the Federal Government with an enormous club to force us to live they way they, our elected rulers, think we should live.
Without the federal Income Tax and IRS our lives would be much easier and the liberal/progressive/socialist/democrat cabal wouldn’t have the enormous power they currently wield.
A politician give up power? Not hardly Pilgrim!
Bingo! My thoughts, exactly. The current IRS scandal is evidence of why Washington will NEVER give up the IRS, and they’re current practices. It’s solely about information and intimidation.
Ya THINK?????
Its becoming more clear by the day that a necessary condition for freedom is privacy including financial privacy.
I think under our current system, financial privacy is a felony. But not only does freedom require it, in a corrupted world your personal security requires it.
A flat tax is an income tax and would accomplish nothing, If the 16th were repealed a flat tax on income would be illegal. The only way to go is with a fed sales tax, one limited to a certain percentage and all other fed taxes declared, via an amendment, unconstitutional.
A postscript to my last post. Our present income tax started as a flat tax and see what happened to it over time. Any income tax is evil and subject to abuse by those in power and that is why the 16th amendment was passed in the first place.
