I believe it was in response to a lawsuit by Landmark Legal Foundation (Mark Levin). If you can, watch the beginning of Hannity last night.
I suspect that they feared that a whistle blower was about to expose them. By releasing the information themselves, they may have been trying to minimize the damage.
