I know someone else who did this. In a way I understand it. In another way, its kind of creepy. My Mother had breast cancer and had to have her breasts removed. I think a woman would only undergo this procedure as a last resort. Definitely a Hobson’s choice.

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/BRCA ~ ".......BRCA1 and BRCA2 are human genes that belong to a class of genes known as tumor suppressors. Mutation of these genes has been linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. ..... A woman's risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer is greatly increased if she inherits a deleterious (harmful) BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation. Men with these mutations also have an increased risk of breast cancer. Both men and women who have harmful BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations may be at increased risk of other cancers......"

Doesn't matter ~ if the ovarian or breast cancers are a result of a mutated BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene (those are the ones that keep cancer away) they could be caused by either or both!

She has BRCA1 mutation and her mother died of breast cancer.

Cut 'em off!

Did your mother die from that breast cancer?

I don’t know if I could do it but I understand why she did it.

“Isn't’t her dad, Jon Voight?”

That is correct. They were estranged, but now I'm not sure.

"sheesh, not everything is a smoke screen."

Agree; to the extent that this publicizes the genetic link to certain forms of cancer, this is a good thing. This is a hard decision but Angelina Jolie is not alone in making the decision.

Either that or undergo transplant surgery.

Problem is finding a young corpse who hasn’t been mangled in an accident.

Her dad is conservative but Jolie a is a lib.
I admire her for going public with this issue if it helps one woman make that difficult decision...

I have had ovarian cancer as my siter had, she had breast cancer too. With BRCA the risk is upward of 80% of having one or both.

It is no joking matter and while we had genetic testing for the sake of our children and do mot have that particular gene, if I did I would have surgery.

Those smart alecks who turn this into a joke or a why should I care, are juvenile and dont know,
.

I admire her for going public. Too many women die because they dont know the risks!

If you have a first degree relative with breast or ovarian cancer, you need the testing!

Botox is used to treat wrinkles, IB. Her lips aren’t enhanced. They’ve always been like that.

She had reconstructive surgery over 3 months, I’ll bet her boobs look better now than before. I’m sure we will see in her next movie.

BUT, this radical surgery is crazy. You could die tomorrow being hit by a bus. Why would you believe a “doctor” about this? They are one credibility level above weatherman and two above car salesman.

I just now heard on Fox that it is more like a 60% chance and there is a 12% chance already for everyone.

Also, this per cent is over your lifetime. What per cent of those 60% are near the end of their lives anyway?

I wonder if it is like other cause of death statistics where the REAL cause of death was OLD AGE.
