An inspector generals report due for release next week says senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew that agents were targeting conservative groups for special scrutiny as early as 2011, nine months before the IRS commissioner assured Congress the targeting was not happening.
The report is certain to raise questions about the timing of the IRSs disclosure of the targeting on Friday, how high up were the officials who knew about the practice, and whether anyone outside the agency was aware of it.
Details of the inspector generals audit, obtained by The Washington Post from a congressional aide with knowledge of the findings, revealed that Lois G. Lerner, who oversees tax-exempt groups for the IRS, knew about the targeting of tea party and other groups in June 2011.

how very gestapo of the imperial president...
Unlike Benghazi, which most people feel doesn’t impact them personally, an IRS scandal hits home with everybody because they hate the IRS.
Both scandals need to be thoroughly investigated and heads should roll.
WaPoWow!
Does anyone believe the IRS would do something like this without White House approval? This scandal could finally take out the Kenyan.
Yep! “Punish your enemies.” -BHO and ValJar
Don’t hold your breath.........
Having fun firing up the moonbats at the WaPo comments.
Join the fun.
why do democrats trust government?
I’m not understanding the question of the timing. It was a Friday, and the other shoe dropped today. This is unquestionably the best timing to deliver “bad news”.
Maybe next they’ll investigate the US Postal Service and how they trash mailings of conservative political candidates and organizations.
Anyone remember the Valerie Jarrett comments about payback after the Election?
And ballots.
Think about it. The easiest crime to commit.....untraceable.
Let’s get paranoid for a minute. Why would the Administration through the IRS announce a new scandal/misconduct on Friday and then the next day?
Simple! They’ve gotten burned badly on the Benghazi coverups because of the caliber of the witnesses who testified Wedneday, plus the devastating comments of the parents of several of those killed by the terrorists.
It was beginning to effect even liberals/media so the White House decided to offer up something smaller and potentially less costly in order to deflect or derail more Benghazi hearings which could rip the lid off of the whole debacle.
The Navy used to sacrifice PT Boats, Destroyer Escorts and even Destroyers in order to save Merchant ships, the heavy ships and Aircraft carriers.
Obama is doing the same in order to save himself and the White House from a direct torpedo-namedS”CANDAL” hit.
If I were Obama, Jarrett and Axelrod, I’d do the very same thing to deflect a potentially impeachable conclusion about Benghazi (”High crimes and misdemeanors”).
Obama, Hillary, Dempsey (if he was then head of JCS), and Panetta were all either AWOL (aka desertion), or criminally negligent in what they did and DID NOT DO.
A terrorist attack is the legal equivalent of an “act of war” so wartime condition rules would apply to the above.
Impeachment is the only way to hold Obama accountable and he/his clique will do anything (as will the Democrat Party), to see that another Bill Clinton affair doesn’t happen.
PUT NOTHING PAST THE DEMOCRATS. THEY ARE THE MOST IMMORAL, CORRUPT AND POLITICALLY ABITIOUS POLITICAL GROUP IN THE HISTORY OF THE US, AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO OBRTAIN AND HOLD THAT POWER.
Oh boy,and now there are 15 thousand more agents,Sebelius can now send them out to insurance companies and churches that don’t give her a donation to implement Obamacare
I see the IRS would NEVER use there data mining software in a nefarious way. LOL
The left has politicized EVERYTHING.
They are the tyrants.
