An alleged plot against Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Bartholomew is being investigated by an Ankara public prosecutor, private broadcaster NTV reported today.
The investigation was launched after a letter was sent from the Central Anatolia province of Kayseri, claiming that the Istanbul-based patriarch would be the target of an assassination attempt on May 29, the 560th anniversary of Istanbuls conquest by Mehmed the Conqueror.
A man was detained and police forces are searching for two others. The suspects recently arrived in Istanbul from Kayseri, police sources said.
S.A., the detained suspect, refuted the claims and said he was in Istanbul to visit his relatives and he had no intention or plan of murdering Bartholomew.
A file opened by a Kayseri prosecutor has been handed over to the Ankara public prosecutor.
The investigation revealed that another letter was sent to prosecutors in 2008 claiming that S.A. was planning to murder Bartholemew.

It can only be the sound of beating wings.
There are a LOT of differences. The Ecumenical Patriarch is at best “first among equals.” Each patriarchate is autonomous.
I believe the Wild Angels have arrived!

I understand that.
Hmmmm ... I’ll make a wild-eyed guess that the Religion of Pieces is somehow involved in this.
Would not surprise me either.
The sad reality is that Turkey is reverting back to its old bad ways.
Free Constantinople Now!
detestable
I'd say it's more than a guess that the Religion of Pieces is involved.
One of my ancestors died that night, a Tuesday, 560 years ago, on the wall of The City, fighting next to Constantine XI Paleologos, the last God Ordained Emperor of the Roman Empire. He as fate would have it, was an ancestor of one of my dearest friends, a Levantine Greek. Others of my ancestors, women and children, had gathered at Agia Sophia for the Divine Liturgy that night. When the Turks burst in, the priests took the Holy Gifts and disappeared into the wall of the apse east of the altar. When I was little, I was told that they will return to finish that Liturgy when the church is restored to the True Faith and Worship. The women and children were raped and dragged off into slavery.
