A local high school English teacher was suspended after the father of a student accused the teacher of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the student.
The father of the 15-year-old girl gave a statement to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office accusing Palatka High School English teacher Austin Johns of having unseemly text message conversations and engaging in illicit trysts with the student.

Johns, 27, has been put on suspension. His name is one of eight names listed as being up for resignation, suspension or termination at Tuesday's school board meeting.

"We investigated it, and we found it to be non-criminal," said Deputy Paula Priester. "And we have closed our case."

Does this now mean that, so long as an employer is ok with it, adult males are going to be permitted to make out with 15 year old females ?!

There is currently no law at all against an adult male kissing a minor female. They had to have evidence that "Tab A was inserted into Slot B" (to borrow a phrase from your other post) to make a case.

I’ll pretty much have to agree with that, if he had done the deed then he’d be up on statutory rape charges but as it is I don’t see the crime. If you tried to make it illegal to kiss a minor or hug a minor then you make every parent/family member/friend a criminal. And as long as they say that’s all that happened he’s free and clear.

No but stupid/really stupid might work. If she’s real cute then stupid, if she’s not then really stupid ;) Hard to believe in this day and age that any male teacher would go there given how tough the laws are, but the age difference isn’t all that much and if he had waited three years and for her to graduate there’d be no out cry at all.

I really have to wonder about how sheltered some of the posters are on FR. The days of 15 years old girls being all innocent are looooong gone. It’s more than likely that she had more sexual experience than him believe it or not. People here like to joke about the women teachers that do this with their guilty/not guilty stuff and don’t seem to consider it much more than a joke but turn the sexes around and then it’s a major crime! Sorry but in either case both parties knew what they were doing and knew what the consequences were.
