Many of Anderson's votes were Rockefeller Republicans who'd been fighting against Reagan since 1976 and before, and Goldwater before that. And they are the same ones who've been trying to undo Reagan's conservatism since he left office, the same folks who gave up Dole, McCain, Romney and 'compassionate conservatism".
Anderson was a quirky candidate who took some votes from Carter and Reagan, a total of 8% of the vote in 1980.
