Just wonder does that include Duke University Health Systems because in 2012 the State of Michigan approved the sale of Marquette General Health Hospital to be part of Duke University health Systems. Marquette is a teaching hospital and a Level 1 trauma Center. (I am not kidding about Duke University purchasing a hospital in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan).
This is weird, but may explain some weird charges showing up on my Marquette General Hospital bill (A Duke University Health Systems Facility) that i do not understand. The billing comes from Illinois - outsourced their medical billing to another state.
That’s weird that Duke Health would buy a hospital in Yooperland. And when we lived in Durham my wife had to go to the ER at Duke for a broken bone in her foot. She ended up waiting SIX HOURS to be seen (in the middle of the night), got a doctor with a horrible bedside manner, got blown off by the orthopedist on her followup visit and never given another followup, and then they screwed up the billing by trying to charge the bill to somebody else’s Blue Cross and coming after us when BCBS rejected it, threatening to take us to collections when we’d never even seen the bill. It got worked out in the end but it took far more effort than it should have.
They really are one of the best teaching hospitals and med schools in the country if not the world, but as a hospital system serving the public, especially in a craphole like Durham, NC, they “ain’t all that.”
