What do people do? Through the efforts of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, more than 35,000 prayer gatherings will be conducted by about 40,000 volunteers across the United States. Several million people are expected to participate in this call to prayer. Some celebrities, such as popular musician and Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs, will join millions of Americans in praying for the nation.

Other events in various communities across the United States may include: choirs and bands performing songs relating to prayer; community prayer breakfasts or luncheons; daytime prayer walks; and evening worship and prayer services or gatherings. National Day of Prayer is a time for people of all faiths to pray together in their own way.

Public life National Day of Prayer is not a public holiday. Schools, post offices, stores and other businesses and organizations are open as usual. Public transport services run to their usual schedules and no extra congestion on highways is to be expected.

Background In 1775 the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. Over the years, there have been calls for a day of prayer, including from President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. On April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer.

Unless of course you are in the military, in which case you could get court martial-ed if you get caught.

Popping to the state capitol today. I guess the FBI will now have my picture on file since we are now considered “hostile” by this administration and its army.

Lord, Father most loving
creator of Heaven and earth
pour Your endless mercy out upon us
do not turn away in our hour of need
give us the strength to do Your will in all things
to defeat satans legion in our midst
to once more put this nation into Your loving hands
and to give You Glory and Honor all the days of our lives. Amen

Katy, Texas is having a large gathering at the Merrill Center.

The Natinoal Day of Prayer is a big deal down here. My wife and I are running a gathering at our apartment complex and everyone is really looking forward to it.

We need a ‘National Day of Repentance’...perhaps a ‘National Month of Repentance’.

There was special Day of Prayer worship at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church of Lexington, SC today. The organizer of it told us that there was a movement by non-believers throughout the country today that the non-believers call “National Day of Reason” as a counter to our beliefs.
We prayed for them.

Which totally sucks, and is unconstitutional. I’m only a H.S. student, and EVEN I know that! Hooray for prayer :)

Amen! The schools might not be able to advertise it, but my school said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the Nat’l Day of Prayer. Good reminder, but a little late, sadly.....
