‘Smoking’ gun nets 60G fine 60G fine for cig lighter

By JULIA MARSH Last Updated: 3:42 AM, May 2, 2013 Posted: 3:16 AM, May 2, 2013

The owner of a Midtown tourist shop is firing back at Mayor Bloomberg’s crusade against toy guns, filing papers to block a $60,000 fine from the city for selling lighters shaped like small pistols.

“We don’t have the money,” said Fred Shayes, 49, who owns US Camera & Computer Inc. near Penn Station. “I would have to take a loan out from the bank to pay that.”

Shayes filed a petition in Manhattan Supreme Court to vacate the fine. At issue is a bronze-and-silver colored 3-inch butane lighter shaped like a gun with a black handle and a red tip that was selling for $10 until investigators slapped the store with a fine and yanked it off their shelves.

Just another example of Despot Bloomberg destroying small business by stealing their money.

Is there a “specific” ordinance against Cigarette lighters in NYC?

How about a “specific” ordinance against “novelty” items?

Common sense, (of which NYC appears to have very little of), says that this is an open and shut case against the city.

The real reason NYC is doing this: “Over the past seven years, city officials have seized more than 7,200 illegal toy guns from stores and levied $2.4 million in fines, officials said.”

Business should close shop and move out of New York...it’s time to end their status of holding economic superiority in the US....time to find another city that maintains rights of Citizens and is business friendly...without corporate taxes and other businesses...New York will fall — prehaps the political socialists would be kicked out sooner than later...

I did read the article. A $5K fine for each lighter? Give me a BREAK!!!!

It’s little examples of tyranny like this that eat at the soul. One day it’s going to be something like this that sparks it all off. CWII is just a incident away now and it’s not going to be pretty... Not at all

I moved out last year, best thing I ever did. And I grew up in NYC and ran a business there until I couldn’t take it anymore. Paying taxes through the wazoo not to mention the constant attempts by the city to steal even more money. I tell liberals all the time who think we do not need a 2nd amendment “because tyranny can never happen in the US..” Oh no? Tyranny can’t happen in the USA? Please check out NYC and tell me that again.

Reminds me of this:

“I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I said:

“It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them.

“Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years.”

Maybe he could change them to distribute Morning After pills instead.

If that’s the case, it’s not like the store owner should be surprised.

Better yet if a few of these “inspectors” started disappearing.

The odds are he voted for Bloomturd and 0bama. Should happen to more New Yorkers.

Do it carefully, because they are probably armed!
The thing that constantly amazes me is the number of “our fellow citizens” who are happy to take jobs where they can abuse us.

Every other commercial break down here in NC there's an advertisement promoting NY's business climate and how helpful they are to business. Can't say as I know anybody takin'em up on it, tho'.

Matter-of-fact, seems the tide between here and New York is in a pretty constant state of flowing this-a-way. d:^)

Isn’t that the Bill Ayers philosophy of government?

Kill off 25 million citizens, the rest will be easy to control.
