The Pro Football Hall of Fame is in the process of honoring each of its members by placing a plaque at each Hall of Famer's high school.

The Hall of Fame's project made a stop at Superior (WI) High School on Wednesday to honor legendary Vikings Head Coach Bud Grant as well as fellow Hall of Fame members Alphonse "Tuffy" Leemans and Ernie Nevers.

Grant is the most revered figure in Vikings lore. He was head coach of the Vikings for 18 seasons (1967-83, 1985) and in that time compiled a regular season record of 158-96-5 while guiding the Vikings to 11 NFC/NFL divisional championships, claiming titles in 1968-71, 1973-78 and 1980. The Vikings won the NFL title in 1969 and played in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX, XI under Grant.

Prior to joining the Vikings, Grant went 102-56-2 as head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, guiding the club to 4 Grey Cup titles in 6 title game appearances. Grant also played 6 years of professional football, 2 with the Philadelphia Eagles and 4 with the Blue Bombers. He holds the pro football record for most INTs in a game with 5 vs. Saskatchewan (10/28/53). Grant also played 2 seasons with the NBA's Minneapolis Lakers and won the 1949-50 NBA Championship.

Grant was born on May 20, 1927, in Superior, WI and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in July of 1994. He is the first person to be elected to both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

At minute 24 the video talks about the scabs and the chanting of Odin. Great stuff!

I have that on DVD. It really does bring back memories. When I think of Joe Capp, I automatically think Tim Tebow.

Same kind of QB, but Capp was a hard nosed Catholic with an attitude.

Neither Capp nor Tebow can hit the side of the barn, but that's OK. They'll just run through it and anyone in their way to the endzone.

On the video where Kapp threw for 7 touchdown passes in one game (still the record) “Yeah - and I bet 5 of them were spirals!”

Of course being a Lions fan growing up, I hated the Vikings (mainly because they always beat us), but I have the utmost respect for Coach Grant.

Also had a lot to do with moving indoors from The Met.

Why is that? Maybe decades ago but plenty of dome teams have been successful lately. Rams, Colts and Saints won SB.

Who wanted to play Minnesota in the playoffs there? Heck, you had to push off on the safety just to beat them. ;)

Yes, the famous Hail Mary game that still gets mentioned. Forget the fact that Drew was also an illegal receiver, because he went out of bounds. By rule he could not be the first person to touch the ball. Then to add insult to injury, as you eluded to, he pushed off on the safety to get the pass.

Like now, that push off was offensive pass interference, which the referee should have flagged.

That was the year the I firmly believe my Vikings would have gone all the way. Then again, I could say that about a dozen other times they never should have been in a situation for the other team to even be close enough for a bad call or missed call to be a factor.

Since then I can honestly say that the worse moment that allowed the Vikings to be eliminated was the time Denny Greene (or as my wife called him, Re-Rerun) decided to kneel down with possession of the ball, and take his chance on winning the coin toss in overtime. Sadly, we lost the coin toss, and Atlanta went on to kick a field goal to advance to the SB.

This mind you from a coach who, at the time, had the most dominating receiving core and offense in the history of the game.

I remember all the times we coulda, shoulda, woulda won if only.................

Maybe this will be our year, It can happen, it just hasn’t yet.

Ahhhhh,,,, forever the bridesmaid and never the bride.
