In an interview Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Manchin touted the merits of the proposal, which would require criminal background checks for all gun purchases made over the Internet or at gun shows, arguing that law-abiding gun owners will love this bill.
Ive gone down and worked the bill into the coal fields, into the gunfriendly West Virginians that I hunt with, and sport shoot with, said Manchin. And all of them to a T, when they saw the bill, this basically not only protects your Second Amendment rights, it expands your Second Amendment rights.
However, despite the supposed popularity of the bill, it failed to garner the 60 votes necessary to overcome a Republican-led filibuster, falling short by 6 votes (54-46) earlier this month.
Wallace asked how the next time around, the next vote on the proposal would be different. In response, Manchin explained how the bill needed to be more streamlined and less confusing to the both lawmakers and the American people.
The bill needs to be clean, I believe, said Manching. Thats my belief, that if the bill runs clean and people can vote on this bill up or down based on the merits of this bill, how it protects a gun, a Second Amendment gun person, a law-abiding gun owner, its perfect for that person.
Though, theres also another hiccup that could potentially derail the bills comeback. That is, signs of resignation and defeat from the bills co-sponsor, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA).
The senate has had its vote, Toomey said on Friday in an interview with Philly.com. Weve seen the outcome of that vote. I am not aware of any reason to believe that if we had the vote again that wed have a different outcome.

Your thoughts?
I think we are about to see something that will make the Cornhusker Kickback look like a penny pot Saturday Night poker game.
Manchin is living proof that the NRA makes very, very bad mistakes sometimes. And its also proof that the Dem strategy of running candidates who talk conservative at home and then vote liberal in Washington continues to work (because the media protects them). Manchin winning and turning out as he did is a horrible disappointment.
>> Your thoughts?
I’d express my true thoughts on Manchin and Toomey but I’d rather not be banned just yet. :-)

Didn’t they float the idea of special exemptions for Alaska and Montana last time around? Sort of the same thing... still failed. You might be right, though. When you get down to the core, senators are just prostitutes, and re-election to statewide office is a VERY expensive jones to feed.
” shall not be infringed.”
What is so F’ing hard about that?
My question about purported “broad national support” for background checks, do people even know about the NICS system?
If they knew the goal was to flag us for every instance of mental health treatment, to include stress, they might think differently.
No, they only need to bribe or threaten enough senators to get it passed.
“We the people” don’t vote on legislation. Soon we may not be voting on elections.

Obamas Misfire on Gun Control
Unintended consequences: Many states are passing laws to loosen rules on guns.
By Charles C. W. Cooke
Long before Barack Obama came fully out of the gun-control closet and dressed himself in the gaudy attire of the crusader, he held a solid claim to the title of Best Inadvertent Gun Salesman in History. His credentials are impeccable: Not only did Obama record for posterity his endorsement of a ban on the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns on a 1996 political questionnaire, but, while running for president in 2008, he also discourteously characterized Americans who werent from New York City or San Francisco as bitter people who cling to guns and religion summing up what progressives have long thought about gun owners and their recalcitrant accomplices in the flyover states.
