I was never that big into country music but somehow I successfully missed this fellow’s entire career. I got plenty of Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold, Ray Price, Roger Miller, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash and even worked at a country music radio station one summer. Just can’t remember anything by George Jones.
Well, if he accepted Jesus, I’m sure I’ll meet him someday. RIP.

I seem to remember “the race is on” as a kid. Must have been a crossover hit because I didn’t listen to country stations. Great song!

He died on April 27, 2013(sic)
Better hook George up to a ventilator and wait until tomorrow to pull the plug.

"...listen to country stations..." There isn't any country music anymore. Stuff they play today is the same as you hear on regular stations only the singers wear cowboy hats instead of sideways baseball caps.
