That’s one of the dichotomies that you’ll encounter between the left and the right.

The left has an inherent trust in government always doing the right thing and having benevolent motives toward society.

Conservatives, including the founders, inherently distrusted government, more specifically government power, and the founding documents reflected this distrust by limiting the powers of the government.

I will, for the sake of discussion, grant “the left” that their politicians generally want to “do good things for, or to, society”

I will, for the sake of discussion, even grant that they sometimes DO achieve good things for society

It still baffles me how many “leftists” can so completely ignore, or gloss over, the patent facts that ... on many other occasions, their politicians do some very terrible things to society ... (the obvious candidates: Hitler, Stalin, Mao.... slaughtered how many tens of millions of people?)

At the very least, “the left” should be able to acknowledge that governmental powers can be abused, even by their own “side” ——— and go on from there with their political objectives ... in a more realistic, and careful, manner
