Because the press is trained to look for the shocking and, above all, political angle. Every reporter believes they’re the next Woodward and Bernstein. So, even an expose on the local flower show is written in this shocking, political style just in case the Pulitzer committee happens to read it. BTW, I didn’t read the article, because, as you point out, it’s irrelevant. Can I assume that since it didn’t read, “white, conservative, antiabortion Republican,” that the uncle was a Democrat?
