See this just proves that my parents were terrible horrible people. They taught us that if a person in authority (teacher, supervisor, police officer, etc....) tells you to do something; you do it. Even if you disagree with it you can complain about it later, but you won't be suspended, written up for insubordination, or get your @$$ thrown in jail for resisting arrest or disorderly conduct. You can always file a complaint later.

That was the way it was in my house when I was in (public) schools in the 1950s and '60s. But that was then, when the schools were run by (mostly) dedicated and intelligent professionals, and this is now, when the schools are run by blithering idiots (and the teachers are morons, too).

Things drastically changed between 1965 when I graduated from high school and 1986 when my oldest child entered school. I suspect that they are even worse now.

My parents taught me about those in authority, too — like if you get in trouble at school, you get in trouble at home. Of course this was in the late 30’s and 40’s. Life was very different then. The school would close for two weeks in the fall so we could help bring in the cotton crop. The schools had freedom then.
