Williams-Sonoma Pulls Pressure Cookers Off Shelves in Massachusetts

Following the Boston Marathon bombing last Monday in which pressure cookers were used for the explosion, the cookware giant has decided to temporarily stop selling the items in their Massachusetts stores.

Williams-Sonoma, the specialty retailer of home furnishings and gourmet cookware with over 250 stores in the United States, has pulled pressure cookers from their shelves following the Boston Marathon bombing.

"It's a temporary thing out of respect," said Kent, who is the Store Manager of the Williams-Sonoma at the Natick Mall. He referred Patch to corporate for further questions. Williams-Sonoma also has a local branch at Legacy Place in Dedham.

Pressure cookers will still be available on the Williams-Sonoma website.

Reminds me of my yuppie brother-in-law who took his family to spend a week in a rural cabin in the Appalachian Mountains. He got a hankering for stir-fry but could not find a wok amongst the kitchen utensils (hard to believe...I know!) He scoured the shelves of the local Walmart before finding a boxed electric wok, coated in dust, buried on the top shelf.

He took it to the cashier who stared at it a long time, stared at him, looked back at the wok and then said, “Y’all aren’t from around here, are ya?”

No thanks. I’ll probably “go Amazon”.

The “All American” is the preppers’ choice.

And so far as can be determined, there is no background check yet called for in regards to the purchase or acquisition of a pressure cooker....

Be prepared... the next thing to happen will be suspending school kids that draw a pressure cooker. Kid’s REALLY in trouble if for Show-n-tell, they bring one in!

How many times did he look behind the skillet for a wok?

Paying the Williams-Sonoma price for a pressure cooker only to blow it up? That would have to be one dumb terrorist!

You're right Buckeye - the 'made in China' cookers at Walmart work the same... Williams Sonoma must be liberal ... this is what passes for liberal 'logic'...

Such a wonderfully timed, pro-active step! (Not).

There's no possible way anyone could ever get a pressure cooker at a garage or yard sale. It simply MUST be new for it to explode right when packed with ANFO and BBs.

I’d imagine “someone, somewhere” is right at this moment,
monitoring pressure cooker sales on Ebay....as they should be.

Just think of the hundreds of Americans who are stabbed to death every year, at least some of whom come from Boston. They are entitled to similar respect. All sales of chef’s knives, some of the most evil, gut slicing knives imaginable, should be immediately suspended in Boston. Naturally, when sales of these evil murder weapons are resumed, they should only be allowed to properly licensed chefs, definitely not ignorant housewives.

I was joking with the WS site. I’m not joking that after Amazon’s gay commercials I won’t be doing any business with them again. Better to buy one locally and help your own town.
