There are less icky ways to green things up. Doesn’t New England have more forest than it used to, because there is less tilled land than, say, 150 years ago? And more wildlife is coming back (some of which is predators). Improved agricultural production resulted in more wild land. And no icky body piles. So there, Gengis.

After the great Tambora volcanic eruption in 1815, there was the year with no summer in New England and other places. There was no month that did not have some snow. Many people left there for other territory further south.
