Common misconception there. No one, cops or otherwise, has to read a hoodlum his rights. They just can’t use anything he says before that reading against him. In the case of this dirtbag the evidence pile is a mile high and he’d be tried/convicted whether he mumbles anything or not. As the US atty noted they want to get everything they can from him before a lawyer clams him up.
