I think you are right there. Jihadists world over are seeing how two malcontent punks in the US with some IED’s and firearms can disrupt a whole city for days. That’s not a comforting thought.
In fact, I’m wondering if the Chris Dorner media frenzy might have been inspiration for these morons, or any future whackjob with a grudge, no matter what cause they cling to.
Mass shootings ending in in the suicide or arrest of the perp are exclamation points of terror. They occur and are over with sickening suddenness. The damage they do to those immediately effective is horrific, but the damage to society is more or less determined by the amount of freedom those who make the law are willing to take away in response.
Attacks followed by massive manhunts that last for days with all the media trimmings are more “bang for the buck” from the viewpoint of those wanting attention, terror, disruption and the erosion of freedom in this country. We may get used to what amounts to martial law during these emergencies. Would that good for the country if there are more and more of them?
I’m glad they took this little creep alive. I’m all for bad guys getting the short end of the stick in a gunbattle, but besides the intelligence goldmine the capture represents, the willingnes to accept surrender rather than execute on the spot is part of what seperates us from “them”. I’m still not entirely comfortable with the way Dorner got the mini-Waco treatment. Kudos to the guys who pulled off the capture of this lowlife.
Good points.
I think Holder/Obama will let this drag on just like Fort Hood.
