ICE Calls The Blaze’s Report on Deportation False But Says They Do Have Different Saudi in Custody

Original title: ICE Official Calls The Blaze’s Report on Deportation ‘Categorically False’ — But Says They Do Have Different Saudi in Custody

A senior law enforcement official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told TheBlaze Thursday that reports claiming the department was deporting Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi under section 212 3B (“security and related grounds”) and had opened an “event” (or file) on the Saudi Arabian national following the Boston attacks is “categorically false.”

The official also told TheBlaze that Alharbi was never in custody nor ever considered for deportation by ICE, but that the department does have a different Saudi national in custody being held on grounds unrelated to the Bostong bombings.

Reports have indicated that both Alharbi and another Saudi student were wounded in Monday’s blasts. While in the hospital for treatment following the attack, Alharbi was considered a “person of interest” and was guarded by law enforcement officials. He is now, according to law enforcement officials, no longer considered a person of interest.

The senior ICE official confirmed to TheBlaze that the department does currently have a different Saudi Arabian national in custody, but that that person is in “no way affiliated” with the Boston attacks, nor is the detainee one of the two Saudi nationals who were wounded on Monday.

The ICE official add that the man currently in ICE’s custody is from the Boston area and is being detained on visa violation issues only.

“The person we have in custody is not Alharabi, is not being deported, and is not connected at all to the Boston attack,” the senior law enforcement official told TheBlaze.

“The person is in custody for violations of his visa. Alharbi is here legally and is not being deported…Alharbi was never in ICE’s custody.”

“That alleged source has no idea what they are talking about and their [claim] is categorically false,” the senior ICE official told TheBlaze about its earlier report.

The official added that Homeland Security is working closely with the FBI to find out who perpetrated the attacks.

“Everyone wants to find out who was responsible,” the ICE official added.

Can anyone name the source that told the Blaze that the guy was being deported? How about Steve Emerson’s source?

Yep. What does the ‘other Saudi’ have to do with the story at all?

On the other hand, this official seems to confirm that the important one (the one with burns from the explosion and extensive Saudi terrorist families ties who had bags full of stuff taken from his apartment) has been let go. Also, he seems not to deny that he is or has gone home to Saudi Arabia.

Whether the classification as reported was ever precisely correct isn’t too significant.

According to this response from ICE, there are actually *three* Saudi nationals in question. Two were wounded during the marathon bombing and hospitalized. The third, they say, is someone different than those two, and he is being detained in Boston due to VISA violations.

This ICE report claims Saudi #1 (the one identified yesterday) and Saudi #3, the one being detained in Boston, have nothing to do with the Boston bombings.

I can’t help but notice the fact that this ICE report carefully avoids saying *anything* about the status of Saudi #2, the one they say was also wounded and hospitalized.

Investigating terrorism is tantamount to profiling...suddenly Saudi’s are being detained for all manor of unrelated terrorism.

Next they’ll tell us terrorism is a cultural norm for Saudi’s and not alone grounds for suspicion.

Saudi #3 is a complete red herring here. He has nothing to do with the story.

Yes, I tend to agree with you. The one that really interests me is Saudi #2. All they tell us about him is that he was wounded during the bombing and that he was hospitalized. From there, nothing.

Steve Emerson, the guy who broke the story on Hannity last night, was just on again. Hannity asked him what had happened since last night. Emerson says that he was shown the actual ICE document today proving that the Saudi student (Saudi #1 in your story) had or has a deportation order for next Tuesday for National Security reasons. He says that some members of US Congress have this same document now too, and that they will be proving it.

Hannnity says he was told the same thing today by two different high-ranking officials. I don’t think this story is quite over yet. Plus, we still don’t know who Saudi #2 is in the original post, and what his fate has been.

Curious why an America-hating Saudi would be in attendance of a running event in celebration of Patriot’s Day.

Is there any reason for anybody following this to think the suspects are still here in the States?

If you’re referring to these Saudi guys as the suspects, the only reason I can think they might still be here in the States is that some people in the FBI, LE, and/or ICE leaked some info yesterday to people like Emerson. Or, as Emerson implied tonight on Hannity, maybe some info was also leaked to select Congressmen. It’s possible that the exposure caused a planned hand-off to the Saudis to fall through. In any case, we may never know.
