A visibly infuriated President Barack Obama surrounded himself with tear-stained parents of Connecticut school shooting victims Wednesday after the Senate voted down a measure designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and declared it a "pretty shameful day for Washington."
The Senate, which is controlled by the president's own party, handed him a stinging first defeat for his second term by voting down a bipartisan compromise to expand background checks for gun buyers. The disappointment was all over the faces of Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, their mouths turned into deep frowns as they appeared in the Rose Garden shortly after the vote.
Obama vowed that the vote would not end his fight for stricter gun laws and was "just round one." But it's unclear where the White House and its allies on guns can go from here, after the Senate sunk their best hope.

I know several dems who like their guns. I said that he would eventually try a gun grab of some type before `12 elections happened...they said he would not do anything like that, and if the dems tried, they would freak. I need to touch base with those people to see how they are feeling. We might have some new guys on our side...at least where guns are concerned.

Instead of cherishing the memories of their children they're buying rides of air force one and a vacation stay in wash DC with the deaths of their kids. There are two kinds of gun control advocates; The ‘low information’ and the ‘true believer.’
The ‘low information’ gun control advocates don’t really know anything about guns. They just repeat whatever sound bite or pithy factoid they’ve heard lately. They are either scared of guns or simply don’t like them, don’t know why anyone would want to own a real gun, and wish guns would just go away. While they may not necessarily intend for everyone’s guns to be confiscated they would most likely say ‘Well, it’s probably for the best,’ and go along with it.
The ‘true believer’ gun control advocates have one simple goal: To make the private possession of any firearm a felony. Period. They want to confiscate every gun not controlled by the government. Some simply hate guns while others see privately held guns as an ‘impediment’ to some other goal or plan. They will take as many years as necessary to achieve this goal, decades even. They are nothing if not patient. They will never stop. When they grow too old to continue they will pass on the job to the next generation of ‘true believers.’
This bill’s defeat is simply a battle in an ongoing war.

I couldn’t help noticing the contrast between the temper tantrum in the Rose Garden with the way he read his statement on the terror bombing in Boston. In fact, he reads all statements about terrorist acts in a monotone, as though he wants to emphasize that he’s not feeling any emotion.
I loved his straw man—claiming that opponents of the gun-grab had argued that it wouldn’t prevent ALL future massacres. Needless to say, what they really said was that it wouldn’t prevent ANY future massacres.
Anyone else notice the Magic Knee Grow has said absolutely nothing about those who died in the explosion in West, TX?

Rather than working to take guns away from law biding citizens....

Occupied, while I understand what you are saying, I think they’re just wracked with grief and looking for “someone to DO something”, to “make someone pay” for their pain. And nothing anyone can do will assuage that grief, but they can’t see that through their agony - an agony which the Dems keep waving in their faces to keep the flames fanned.
Human emotions are powerful things. Grief can be manipulated - and IS being manipulated - by the cynical, the power-hungry, and the downright evil. So can rage, love, sex, desperation. It’s ages old.
Just my opinion brother, but i think the real “cockroaches” are the people who schemed, plotted, and planned out how to best use the hell these families are going through and turn it into political gain for themselves and their agenda. I think we need to point less at the parents and more at the Dems for using them so callously.
