Harry Reid stands for Gun Control.
More about it is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Massacre
Wasn’t one of the “crimes” on the laundry list again WACO guns?
Thank you for that painful reminder.
Kinds silly. The Sioux were at war with the United States, as shown by later acquittals of Sioux warriors for killing US soldiers and civilians during the conflict. Also, they were not US citizens and were not covered by 2A.
What happened at WK was an act of war, in which it is normal SOP to disarm captured enemies.
Which is not to say US Army is above criticism for what happened at Wounded Knee, merely that it has little relevance to today’s gun control issue.
No it wasn’t, it was about protecting Americans during the Indian wars, not confiscating guns from American citizens.
For shooting unarmed (for the most part) men, women and children?
I would have rooted for the Indians...
Ruby Ridge was all about a gun sting op on Randy Weaver.
That's where you and I part ways. In my book, the right to Keep and Bear Arms is a God given right that applies to every human being on the planet.
The 2nd amendment just affirms that pre-existing right.

Question, during WWII did we disarm captured Germans and Japanese, or did we respect their God-given right to keep and bear arms?
Did we disarm fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan, or try to? (Didn’t work very well.)
RTKBA arms is a peacetime right. Such civil rights go right out the window in a warzone, as well they should. That’s why the Constitution specifically allows for their suspension during invasion or insurrection.
Please show me that clause in the Constitution.

I can’t help but wonder how the threads would go if a similar event happened while American Marines were trying to disarm the last holdouts of the Taliban under incredibly tense conditions while alone and unsupported out on the plains in Taliban territory and some among the Taliban pulled guns out from their robes and opened fire.
You didn't say they were enemy combatants. You said they weren't citizens. Non-citizens have a right to keep and bear arms.
Combat is a different beast, but you said that non-citizens don't get 2A.

I expect to see you on all the Afghanistan threads promoting your views of the perfection of warfare and combat and American soldiers.

I’ve read many books in my half century but the most heart-rending and also the most infuriating novel I have ever read is “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”.
Spot on.
This was not about federal gun control, it was about protecting Americans during the Indian wars, not confiscating guns from American citizens.
